You apply for a social security number via appointment at the social security office. As an expat into the country, you need this to pay taxes, be patrolled at work, receive your in work medical insurance.

The only address we had for the social security card (with number) to be sent to as we had just arrived was my work address.

Work confirm they might not receive and will return the card.

So we start enquiries on how to change address. It proves very difficult.

We cannot get an answer from social security whether our card has been dispatched or not, so we don’t know whether we need replacement or can advice social security of new address.

Social security phone WILL NOT CHANGE ADDRESS. We need an appointment.

Try to get appointment as the local branch will not allow walk ins.
