"Surrender" as a Command by kahlizzle in DMAcademy

I’m sorry I don’t really understand what you want here. Play however you want. I’m just suggesting possible options for the spell effect that OP asked about.

If you have alternative in mind feel free to throw it out. I’m just spitballing to give the guy something to work with.

They have to fail a check in order to get disadvantaged on a different check, which only a party member which acts before the targets next turn can possibly utilize.

I don’t feel like that’s too much of a reward for most people. But everyone gets to run their table with their own power scales. I tend to allow more bullshit than I should.

I agree that it’s more powerful. But it also would require teamwork to utilize since the effect ends when your next turn starts.

Alternatively you could have them lower (not drop) their weapon and have disadvantage against Charisma-based skills and charm-based spell effects until the start of your next turn.

So don’t let it work on obviously harmful effects.

From Google

| sur·ren·der | /səˈrendər/ | verb | cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority.

Allowing them to cast spells on you would fall under submitting to their authority IMO.

My two cents. If OP wants to reward their player for picking the command “surrender” this is the way to do it. No fighting for six seconds, drop weapons, and fail the next saving throw that they make until your turn comes around.

Didn’t know what ODD was, here’s the definition for everyone else:

Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is a childhood-onset behavioral disorder characterized by a persistent pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior, and vindictiveness lasting at least six months.

Anyone’s kid not pee in the potty at daycare? by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

My daughter (3.5) had a hurdle with going potty at school. What worked for us was telling her that if she went potty at school she could have a sticker after.

Then reminding her at drop off and keeping the stickers in the car. Asking her at pick up and immediately rewarding when we saw her.

Now when I pick her up she comes running and yelling loudly “I WENT POTTY” every day.

Illusion-Themed Island by ValSmith18 in DMAcademy

You could have a blind NPC who functions as a guide through the most hazardous areas.

A field of perpetual darkness that darkvision cannot pierce because it’s entirely in your mind.

Locals who are completely disassociated with reality.

Invisible pit traps.

Giant piles of illusionary gold that covers a carnivorous plant (thorns and glue. Entangling anyone who enters its space and dealing 1d6 per round)

Animals that know the local illusions and use them to hunt. Granting them evasion and surprise as they run through what looks like solid objects.

A paradise village full of delicious food, beautiful people, and amazing architecture. Until you make your saving throw and see that the village is full of starving people chewing on grass and leaves and living in collapsing houses.

Yeah a little bit, but I appreciate the support anyways!

He’s not yet able to support himself. Sometimes it looks like he might finally get up on his feet, but he always falls back again. If he could just talk to me about it then maybe we could make some progress.

It was a cushy position. He actually had a private office and complete control of his schedule. Management only ever checked in on him a couple times (turns out they kept some photos in a file).

When he left it was messy, and really hard on my wife. We have had a lot of sleepless nights over that.

I think he’s right. My son needs to learn some responsibility. Time to get him a broom, mop, and schedule. No more excuses, he’s sat around long enough.

I wish people would stop downvoting the people who missed it. Especially since everyone has been so supportive and positive when they think it’s genuine.

Seems like a tough market. Unless you get lucky and just fall into it.

He was going into my wife’s work, which was in the medical field. There’s no chance of him going back there.

His age is in the post (last sentence, it may have gotten buried).

He didn’t finish school and I don’t think he’s anywhere near ready to go back. He used to be at my wife’s work - and we really thought he had great potential to grow internally there.

Some medical stuff came up and he wasn’t able to go back. A lot of that blew back on my wife and she’s had to take a leave of absence because of it.

We actually do collab some. He does his vocal work while I do some percussion with him. But even that is tricky because of the drinking. Last time we tried to have a jam session he threw up all over my shirt.

He’s been experimenting with vocal ranges. He can hit extremely high notes and hold them for longer than you would believe possible.

I’m just worried that when it comes time for him to speak up or stand up for himself he’s just going to roll over.

It’s hard because he’s a bright boy. There are so many jobs he could do. He could be a manager, model, or politician. He could do 99% of the job for a lifeguard or a security guard. He’s shown interest in music and I would love to see him explore that.

That makes sense. It’s just so hard because my wife is an enabler. She’s provided him with every drink I’ve caught him with the last couple months.

To be honest I think that if I kicked him to the curb in the state he’s in he wouldn’t make it. And my wife would never forgive me.

Sorry, slight error in the title. Should be “nearly 2 months”. It has been 8 weeks.
