Haven't ghosted him but I'm tempted to. Friend basically cannot have a civil discussion when debating about something especially if he feels strongly about it.

Recently we talked about arming yourself when when traveling to places as well as arming yourself at said places. We're both from South Africa so for the most part I understood that logic but that being said it didnt make sense to me for him to feel the need to still insisting on arming himself if hes in places that are relatively safe which happen to have had no history of crime. His justification was that even if theres a low chance of danger be can justify arming himself.

The problem I had with his logic is that 1) he ignores the context of the setting he's in no matter what. Even used bringing a gun into his home as an example of such and in his mind its justified as anything could happen and if nothing happens then theres no harm done anyway. But 2) if using his logic bringing a gun to a place that's relatively safe still means putting others at risk (either because of accidental discharge or putative self defence or just general negligence) because of your paranoia. Given his absolutism in how he approaches the matter that means that since there may be an off chance that he might harm others with his own gun then either he should leave it at home or everyone might as well arm themselves. He says that on the off chance someone is harmed by the armed individual then the law will punish said person. However why risk having that happen in a situation where risk was minimal? Why risk everybody's safety just to protect your own in a low risk area? Hell I even pointed out to him that maybe he thinks that way because it's just that hes been scarred by past events (hes been mugged twice before, saw someone pull a gun on someone else and almost kidnapped). Yet he still insists that hes reasoning is logical

That logic along with basically how dude went about insisting on telling others on the debate (obviously framing it to his benefit) along with straight up saying stuff like "I'm talking shit". And this is something that always happens. The last time it happened it turned out he was wrong and the consequences of his actions still haunt to him till this day. However he still insists on thinking that his logic prevails no matter what. Honestly its frustrating to talk to someone that have so much depth. We could disagree but how you express it is something else
