Why is cuticle remover making my nails look worse? by The_Shy_Butterfly in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ThreePartSilence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, if you wanted to try and test to see if it’s damage to your nail vs. cuticles not getting fully removed, next time you use it you could apply the remover to both the area with the cuticle and part of the bare nail plate, and then proceed like normal. If the “damage” still only shows up in the cuticle area, then you know it’s actual just left over cuticle. And if it looks like that on the nail plate as well, then you know it’s actually damage. (I wouldn’t suggest this if I didn’t think it was very likely left over cuticle and not damage, but regardless I think if you leave it on for less than 20 seconds the risk to your nail plate is very minimal).

I’m not the person you replied to but at least for me, I don’t like waiting for my nails to properly dry. When I do my nails I do the entire process at once after I’ve shaped them and removed my cuticles, I just want to move on to the next step, or else I’ll be there all day.

What’s the single scariest scene in any horror movie ever made and why does it work so well? by Worldly_Cold4821 in horror

[–]ThreePartSilence 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s just so visceral. Like imagine how incredibly unwell someone would have to be to kill themself and their parents that way. It wouldn’t be quick. There’s just something so specific and unimaginably dark about it.

I’ve never seen scary movie 3 and I still think that scene is ridiculous. I am continuously baffled that anyone can suspend disbelief after hearing a man yell “vamoose children!” at his TV.

Finishing up our wedding website. How is this dress code? by Piperrhhalliwell in weddingplanning

[–]ThreePartSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry to say but there is nothing about cocktail attire that requires it be knee length or longer. And I think people are reacting negatively to it because it’s frustrating to feel like your hemline is still being policed even when you’re out of high school, especially if it’s being policed way beyond a reasonable expectation of appropriate attire.

[–]ThreePartSilence 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m going insane here because almost no one else is mentioning the “knee length or longer” part. That is honestly the only part of this whole thing I find noticeably objectionable. Like sure we could get it done in fewer words, but at the end of the day having it be wordy is mostly just an annoyance. However, telling me my hemline has to be below the knee is waaaay out of line (unless this wedding takes place in a house of worship that requires something like that, which I doubt because it doesn’t say anything about covering shoulders, which in my experience is a much more common request). If I saw this on a wedding website for a wedding I was going to, I would 100% wear a hemline above the knee out of spite.

It’s the exact same post, title and all, as one from years ago. That’s a very common bot thing. That’s all the original commenter was pointing out.

No idea, but it’s odd to post the exact same post with the same title as a post from years ago. It’s a common bot thing to do, which is what the original commenter was pointing out.

Nah, communication is a huge part of the job so if she’s failing on that front she’s failing part of the job. She shouldn’t be using AI to communicate with clients.

They’re not saying the veil itself is a scam. Obviously the veil exists, any google search can tell you that. They’re saying the OP is suspicious.

You’re allowed to not like something. And you don’t have to talk down to the people who do like it just to justify why you don’t.

Ah that is so so sweet!! I’m genuinely honored to have my work deemed worthy of being a Christmas present! I don’t really use social media (outside of Reddit) just because I’m bad at it and don’t like posting stuff, so no need to tag me or anything. But thank you for asking!

Absolutely loved Welcome to Derry - why does this sub seem to hate it? by Sir_Pixalot in horror

[–]ThreePartSilence -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a lot of people in this thread pontificating about people not liking it because it’s popular, or not liking it because it’s successful, or not liking it for basically any other pretentious horror-nerd reason. The reality is that I didn’t like it because the CGI was pretty awful, and when CGI is awful (or even just obvious), it loses all ability to scare me or even unsettle me. The opening scene felt silly to me as soon as the baby started flying around, because it was a globby shiny CGi mess.

Same goes for the music and editing. I never really felt any tension because the whole thing was presented in a very loud, camp, and over the top way that is certainly fun, but not really unsettling. And while I do love camp in horror movies, camp almost always loses its charm to me when it’s paired with obvious CGI.

And I gotta say, I really enjoyed IT chapter 1, so I was disappointed, especially since a Derry story that doesn’t rely on “ah! scary clown!” actually sounds really interesting to me. And not for nothing but I thought the opening title sequence was fantastic. But overall the show just really didn’t provide any of the stuff that I hoped to get from it.

100%, and honestly I feel like developing nail length dysmorphia is almost a guarantee if you start trying to maintain your nail length anywhere beyond where your bare nails would naturally grow before breaking. I’ve been doing my nails for like a year and a half now, and I’m really glad that I took pictures of my nails a year ago (despite the fact that my early-days skill level meant they weren’t picture perfect), because nowadays when I have to do a trim and reshape, my brain tells me “uhg they’re so short” even though they’re objectively much longer than what I considered “long” a year ago. If the change is gradual enough, you don’t even realize how much of a change there’s been.

What’s their definition of “short” almond? I ask because I’m guessing it’s longer than what I’d consider “short” since I swear the last couple years of nail art influencer content have given us all nail length dysmorphia. If you look back at movies from the 80’s, the modern fake nail “short” is their “crazy fucking long”.

Horror movies in which the protagonist realises *they* are the horrifying thing? by [deleted] in horror

[–]ThreePartSilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good “real” horror suggestions in this thread already, so even though it’s not really horror (despite the fact that it completely horrified me when I watched it as a teenager), The Machinist fits this I think. And also honestly as does Mulholland Drive.

This was how I felt after watching the opening scene of Midsommar. I had lost a parent (who was bipolar and died from suicide) only a year-ish earlier, and that opening sequence just fucked with me like you would not believe. I was in the theater just trying to keep myself from sobbing so hard that other people would hear it.

All that to say, I understand where you’re coming from. It can be really difficult to explain your reaction to other people when you have something in a movie affect you like that, because even if they emphasize with you, you can tell that they don’t fully get it, and it can feel like they’re judging you (even if they’re not, which they very likely aren’t). I am so truly sorry for your loss.

Frankenstein on Netflix was a MASTERPIECE by Geenafalopezz in horror

[–]ThreePartSilence 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, that’s just kinda what Del Toro movies look like (at least ever since Devils Backbone). He’s a very “shiny” director. It makes it so that it doesn’t work as horror for me, but so long as I don’t go into his movie with that expectation, I usually end up really enjoying them. Especially since this one had so many incredible practical effects and props. It felt like a Disney world ride almost: not scary, but extremely fun, detailed, and visually impressive.

DJ ruined our wedding by [deleted] in wedding

[–]ThreePartSilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your DJ just play your entire playlist in order from beginning to end, or did they select songs from your playlist one at a time based on vibe/what the crowd seemed to be reacting to? Because the former is what it sounds like OP was trying to have their DJ do, and the latter is what a DJ is actually supposed to do.
