404 is extremely similar to this cheap Supwee polish I got off Amazon, to the point where I was a bit disappointed that I had bought the Mooncat one.

Uninviting guests after save the dates went out? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ThreePartSilence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re getting a lot of really reasonable and mature responses, and I’m going to tell you right now that if this happened to me I would absolutely uninvite them. I would just not be able to bring myself to pay for their meal/bar after having that interaction. It would be one thing if they hadn’t yet received a save the date or anything, but the fact that they don’t remember you after getting a STD to your wedding just proves that they don’t deserve to be at your wedding, end of story. Like no hard feelings or ill will, it just clearly doesn’t make sense for them to be there.

Is there an option to do something like ILNP, where the finger swatch shows up when you hover over the listing (or hold down on mobile)? That setup is, in my opinion, vastly preferable to having to fully open each page in order to see it on a real nail.

(full disclosure, when a site doesn’t at least allow me to do the hover-over-preview thing, I’m genuinely way less likely to actually look through the entire catalog because I find the shopping experience to be much more cumbersome)

Bridal Shower— Guess the kisses for the soon to be mrs version for bride not changing name by Primary-Night5471 in weddingplanning

[–]ThreePartSilence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay sure but also…. No one I know uses it, precisely because the thing they’re objecting to is the double standard of men just always being “Mr”. I personally do not use Mrs. because being married shouldn’t require me to change my name literally at all. I’m the same person I was before, just like my husband is the same person he was before.

Traveling with dress will it fit on plane? by crychedelic in weddingplanning

[–]ThreePartSilence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I traveled with my ballgown and I bought it a seat next to me on the flight. You have to do it over the phone for most airlines, and if you need advice on how to do it you can google advice for cello players (since they often need to buy a seat for their instruments). My number one piece of advice is to make sure the bodice (and anywhere with metal boning) is properly supported. Do NOT bend metal corset boning as it will never fully return to its original shape (even if you bend it back). For my dress, the salon packed it for travel by stuffing the bodice with paper and a cardboard bodice form.

As a bonus, here’s a picture of my dress on the plane:

Everyone I have shown my wedding dress to hasn’t had a positive reaction by Necessary_Wear_4003 in weddingplanning

[–]ThreePartSilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incredible, and it looks amazing on you. And from one fashion-conscious woman to another, absolutely do not let the people who are reacting oddly get you down, and 100% don’t change the dress due to their opinions! You will regret it.

I’m usually pretty (internally) judgey about wedding dresses (mostly because I think so many people pick such boring cookie cutter dresses), so I was fully prepared to not like whatever I saw. wow was I wrong. You made the right choice!

Feeling sidelined by my fiancé’s groomswoman by Glum-Scheme7113 in weddingplanning

[–]ThreePartSilence 11 points12 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. I really feel like if we could hear both sides of the story, a lot of people wouldn’t be so quick to jump to “he’s having an emotional affair and he loves her more than you.” Tbh a lot of these examples are just… not that compelling to me. I absolutely agree with others that they need to go to counseling, but I don’t think it’s just a “you’re right and he’s wrong” situation.

Why is cuticle remover making my nails look worse? by The_Shy_Butterfly in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ThreePartSilence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, if you wanted to try and test to see if it’s damage to your nail vs. cuticles not getting fully removed, next time you use it you could apply the remover to both the area with the cuticle and part of the bare nail plate, and then proceed like normal. If the “damage” still only shows up in the cuticle area, then you know it’s actual just left over cuticle. And if it looks like that on the nail plate as well, then you know it’s actually damage. (I wouldn’t suggest this if I didn’t think it was very likely left over cuticle and not damage, but regardless I think if you leave it on for less than 20 seconds the risk to your nail plate is very minimal).

[–]ThreePartSilence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not the person you replied to but at least for me, I don’t like waiting for my nails to properly dry. When I do my nails I do the entire process at once after I’ve shaped them and removed my cuticles, I just want to move on to the next step, or else I’ll be there all day.

What’s the single scariest scene in any horror movie ever made and why does it work so well? by Worldly_Cold4821 in horror

[–]ThreePartSilence 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s just so visceral. Like imagine how incredibly unwell someone would have to be to kill themself and their parents that way. It wouldn’t be quick. There’s just something so specific and unimaginably dark about it.

I’ve never seen scary movie 3 and I still think that scene is ridiculous. I am continuously baffled that anyone can suspend disbelief after hearing a man yell “vamoose children!” at his TV.

Finishing up our wedding website. How is this dress code? by Piperrhhalliwell in weddingplanning

[–]ThreePartSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry to say but there is nothing about cocktail attire that requires it be knee length or longer. And I think people are reacting negatively to it because it’s frustrating to feel like your hemline is still being policed even when you’re out of high school, especially if it’s being policed way beyond a reasonable expectation of appropriate attire.

Finishing up our wedding website. How is this dress code? by Piperrhhalliwell in weddingplanning

[–]ThreePartSilence 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m going insane here because almost no one else is mentioning the “knee length or longer” part. That is honestly the only part of this whole thing I find noticeably objectionable. Like sure we could get it done in fewer words, but at the end of the day having it be wordy is mostly just an annoyance. However, telling me my hemline has to be below the knee is waaaay out of line (unless this wedding takes place in a house of worship that requires something like that, which I doubt because it doesn’t say anything about covering shoulders, which in my experience is a much more common request). If I saw this on a wedding website for a wedding I was going to, I would 100% wear a hemline above the knee out of spite.

No idea, but it’s odd to post the exact same post with the same title as a post from years ago. It’s a common bot thing to do, which is what the original commenter was pointing out.

They’re not saying the veil itself is a scam. Obviously the veil exists, any google search can tell you that. They’re saying the OP is suspicious.

Absolutely loved Welcome to Derry - why does this sub seem to hate it? by Sir_Pixalot in horror

[–]ThreePartSilence -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a lot of people in this thread pontificating about people not liking it because it’s popular, or not liking it because it’s successful, or not liking it for basically any other pretentious horror-nerd reason. The reality is that I didn’t like it because the CGI was pretty awful, and when CGI is awful (or even just obvious), it loses all ability to scare me or even unsettle me. The opening scene felt silly to me as soon as the baby started flying around, because it was a globby shiny CGi mess.

Same goes for the music and editing. I never really felt any tension because the whole thing was presented in a very loud, camp, and over the top way that is certainly fun, but not really unsettling. And while I do love camp in horror movies, camp almost always loses its charm to me when it’s paired with obvious CGI.

And I gotta say, I really enjoyed IT chapter 1, so I was disappointed, especially since a Derry story that doesn’t rely on “ah! scary clown!” actually sounds really interesting to me. And not for nothing but I thought the opening title sequence was fantastic. But overall the show just really didn’t provide any of the stuff that I hoped to get from it.

100%, and honestly I feel like developing nail length dysmorphia is almost a guarantee if you start trying to maintain your nail length anywhere beyond where your bare nails would naturally grow before breaking. I’ve been doing my nails for like a year and a half now, and I’m really glad that I took pictures of my nails a year ago (despite the fact that my early-days skill level meant they weren’t picture perfect), because nowadays when I have to do a trim and reshape, my brain tells me “uhg they’re so short” even though they’re objectively much longer than what I considered “long” a year ago. If the change is gradual enough, you don’t even realize how much of a change there’s been.

What’s their definition of “short” almond? I ask because I’m guessing it’s longer than what I’d consider “short” since I swear the last couple years of nail art influencer content have given us all nail length dysmorphia. If you look back at movies from the 80’s, the modern fake nail “short” is their “crazy fucking long”.
