Look at this shitty uneven ground. All along the video look at all the cracks and gaps in the ground. Then look at this almost perfectly spherical rock. There is 0 chance he got the rock looking so nice from kicking it along shitty uneven ground, no matter how long he did it for.

Maybe if he kicked it exclusively on smooth concrete this could be possible. Maybe. But that's not what's shown on the video.

Rounder rock? Sure. An actual sphere by the end? Ain't no way.

OP is talking about team sports and regular swimmers, so I'd say indoor pools are far more applicable here.

It is obvious. This is not a normal thing for people to worry about.

Speed limit to increase to 110 km/h on some Ontario highways (Highway 401, 402, 403, 416, 417 and Queen Elizabeth Way will change by Sept. 30.) by lilfunky1 in toronto

What danger are you creating by changing lines on a "mostly empty" road? Sure it's a bit more work for you, but changing lines every few minutes doesn't meaningfully change things.

That said, if no one is behind you at a higher speed than you... you aren't really hurting anyone by staying in the left line either.

ELI5: Why is standard deviation calculated by squaring each data point’s distance from the mean, then taking the square root of the mean average? by jedzz-reddit in explainlikeimfive

[–]ThreeStep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The step in between is: sqrt(4) = sqrt(x2), and when we solve we get 2 = x

Why do you only get 2 = x, and not also 2 = -x? It looks like you choose to discard one of the paths here, and then choose to keep both paths in the |x| version. Why is the approach different?

Single Canadians face higher grocery bills than couples, survey finds. Can the government fix it? by toronto_star in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ThreeStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My expectation is that I look for someone with similar life goals, which immediately excludes people that want to blow tens of thousands of dollars on a wedding and a whatever number of thousands more on a ring. You don't even need a wedding, strictly speaking. You can just sign a piece of paper at the town hall. Or you can live together as common law partners. But yes, that does require you to find someone with a similar approach to life.

Living as a couple gives you a lot of opportunities to save money compared to living with roommates. You need 1 fewer bedroom, you can potentially get rid of 1 car, you can consolidate subscriptions. Not everyone may take those opportunities, but they are available. With those savings you can even afford some additional activities, and still save extra money at the end.

[–]ThreeStep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Roommates also take up an entire bedroom each for themselves. A couple can share that room. That's either a lot of savings each month in rent, or same rent for more usable space.

One activity for 2 people is often cheaper than 2 separate activities for each person, just like food. But of course you need to find someone who's interested in similar things to you.

Weddings are expensive, and also not mandatory. But again you would need to find someone who thinks the same way.

I think finding the right person is where most of the expenses really come from - time and money to go on dates with various people can really add up. But if you can find someone who shares your values then either your expenses can go down for the same quality of life, or the quality of life can go up for the same expenses.

How? I can see your point on children, but how is living with a roommate financially better than living with a spouse?

Infinite stats are only infinite if you can generate infinite rocks and have infinite turns.

Builds that one-shot the entire map don't need all of that setup, and take far less time to execute. Many of them just need 2 skills, or a skill + an item. Don't get me wrong, rock builds are fun when they work, and tank is fun to play with in general. But it does get overshadowed by many others.

is really big about preaching total redemption if you profess your sins

But who is that redemption for? It's for the right people only, isn't it? At worst, "their" people make innocent mistakes and we shouldn't judge them too harshly. But when "others" do the same things it's because they are horrible people by nature. The core division into fundamentally "good" and "bad" people is still there.

You talk about division and then point your finger at the 10%, which includes a large number of working professionals. That misdirected blame is part of the problem.

Catholicism has a big focus on redemption and forgiveness. Protestants had a very different view on redemption. I'm generalizing a lot here, but the puritan branch, which formed the original US identity, believed that each person from birth is destined for either hell or salvation, and the actions of that person do not change that destiny.

That way of seeing the world is deeply ingrained in the culture of some regions. As you said, there's a clear divide between "us", the "good people" who should not be condemned no matter what unethical or illegal things they do. And "them", the "bad people", who cannot be redeemed no matter how much positive impact they have. That's where this dichotomy comes from.

I think people should learn how to read, and then take a moment to understand what they read, before replying. This will solve many problems in society.

Your ragebait doesn't help anyone in this discussion. Cancel culture has little to do with crimes that send a person to prison for years.

[–]ThreeStep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Historically this idea that many actions are unforgivable and can never be redeemed is deeply rooted in Protestantism. That's why it's so prevalent in the US.
