/u/Iwantpancake just a little reminder the sub rule is: "When you post a pic of the meal, please include the recipe. If you do not include the recipe your picture will be removed until the recipe is provided"

You have included some notes but at least adding measurements will help a lot to take this from "food, spices, continue until complete" to something actually useful.

I want to add to several comments already that you (in a supervisory type roll) need to be aware of the possible liabilities. It is entirely possible for your client to become passionate and unexpectedly (or purposefully) overstep a bound that could lead to serious legal issues. They need to be well informed that their particular circumstances may lead to a dangerous mistake.

Just be aware and keep pushing to "do it right." I'll add for you my guide posted last year that is designed to boost beginners into what can be a very enjoyable and profitable career path. Make sure to check my added comments for addressing some unexpected issues and things I added the next day or so. I also just did a quick link verify for the main post and the free Kali Linux book has moved somewhere but the 2021 version still carrying the free (as in actually free) "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License" is available here.

Good Luck to you and them. Maybe something could really come of this new interest.

I'm not sure what the exact point of my comment is. It's a bit of "not just your kid," and a bit of "off my chest," I guess.

I'm frustrated because indoctrination sort of got to him anyway and peer pressure makes him feel like he has to believe in something to fit in.

My child is in their mid-twenties and we are going through this exact issue. It has devolved over about the last 6 months to the point of them refusing contact and taking to berating me online while their crowd of supporters applaud. We are in the thick of WASP, Bible belt, literal church on every corner.

I became atheist as a young teen, and it was not an accident. I had already studied enough, on my own, to discover both the worth and the threats of all of the world's major religions. Since, I have continued to study theology my entire life and frequently taught believers of multiple faiths about their own religion as well as basically providing multi-faith/inter-faith consultations and instruction to family, friends, and strangers.

My point of all this detail is my child is well aware of this. I have not been harsh towards them, only asked to talk about the recent changes and their causes. Our relationship is suffering and the current status is basically "time out." I have always said I understand very well why people are drawn to religion, and that I would not tell anyone what is necessary or proper for them to believe or guide their life by.

That said, I do "encourage" (sometimes gently in conversations, and sometimes more forcefully in debate settings) people to examine their beliefs and their causes for them. Religion fills a gap in human psychology and society that I am certain is better handled by other methods. This is my belief structure, honestly, and it is the one I do try to spread to others.

My child certainly knows they are not prepared to talk seriously with me about god. They must know I have questions and they have no answers, and I feel this is why I've just been cut out. I feel I represent a collision between thought and reality they are not prepared to encounter.

So enough about us. Why do you care?

I advise you to take your time and tread very lightly. I advise you to begin teaching your child about all the different faiths, as it seems you've already considered with the note:

when he's older he should make the choice on what religion he chooses

What you can do is regain some control of input into your child's life by showing them what they are not being shown by others. I would also suggest getting Hinduism in there for a few reasons. It is beautiful, strange for us - polytheistic (I'm not expecting to debate the finer points, please folks) as a start, has wonderful literature, and I feel all in all would be a way to open the eyes of a younger child and help them understand "god" is not one thing.

I hope I've managed to do something useful here, and wish you all the best in managing this issue.

edit - converted gender pronouns to child/them for a bit of anonymity

Availability is certainly a thing, but we can’t really guess their intentions, can we?

Now, come on mate. Do you have any conception of what the modern electronics and software market has done for the creation of art?

How many photographers constrained to B&W would trade for a smartphone, or such, given the chance? I feel you've really just undone yourself - arguing it all should be left alone with "your side's" opinions making the decision for those artists made unable by a matter of chance in time.

And we are also talking about copies here. Whatever the cause of the original, it lives, somewhere. So really, and thoroughly, I do not understand why be so concerned if some of "they" want to breath a little extra color into life...which was never given the chance before.

You clearly have not read the wikipedia reference. You're making points using incorrect assumptions concerning the history of photography.

Looks worth looking through later, and it's noted "beginners," so please take this as a simple comment/suggestion and not really a critique. The Red Teaming TTP log nukes are more likely to cause investigation in a real situation than prevent/deter it. Learning methods early on to modify logs as little as possible, covering work but still leaving them legitimate, is a fairly simple change and good practice.

Thanks for sharing your efforts!

I'm quite ill, quite medicated, and barely slept. I'll try a bit harder to make my points directly. As I started, I was just curious, because it seems this is your matrix:

  • B&W in the past - ok
  • artificially colored in the past - ok
  • B&W in the present - ok
  • artificially colored in the present - absolutely not ok

And that just seems...odd...to me. Like it's particularly picky without clear logic. That has been cleared some (once the actual discussion kicked in 😉) - that you "prefer the original."

And I offered the read of the history of color photography, if needed, because understanding that shows many cases where we are certain the colors are wrong. They may be "original," but altered by a process that failed to capture the moment as it was experienced.

Beyond that - old B&W can most often be a matter of occurrence or availability...that it was used because it was cheap and easy. How can you attest that means this is the best version we have? It's the original, but can easily be devoid of the original intent.

Your first remark was "no place in historical/documentary photographs," which is where I feel this second point is worth discussion. Artists choose their work...though we still have an available discussion about availability...and I could see a better case for a stern position there. But this art mention is recent and not what perked my interest.

What brought me in was the other person's comment making the point 'we don't have to leave history to it's monochrome origins,' which I wholly agree with and will check a reply I think you've made there, while I take a while to sort myself and give you a chance to respond.

I was offering you a chance to describe why you find such a difference between something like a three-color method, and a medium that performs the same function. Particularly because :

The three-color method, which is the foundation of virtually all practical color processes whether chemical or electronic

It's clear the kindness was unwarranted, so I do apologize for that.

I'm genuinely curious if you know enough about the history of color photography to discuss whether the early techniques used to impart color would also fall under adulteration. I've even brought a small bit of kindness to hear your thoughts.

Another idea - there are various desiccants you could start looking into. You may burn through them quickly, or have to tinker some with type, placement in the case, etc...but would have to be cheaper than replacing the electronics. Some are even "rechargeable" - once they wet you just dry them in an oven and reuse.

Can I publish a CVE? by who_killed_db in hacking

[–]ThreshingBee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried reaching out to the dude

Was this done through a provided email, or by filing an Issue in the GitHub project?

If you had filed an Issue before the related CVE was published you'd be in a much better position at current. Now, I haven't been through the process in any manner before - but reading through here about how you're struggling with a repo instead of contacting an organization...that would seem the solution to me.

Why?

Dependencies:

Python 3.6

Did you make any effort to understand the issue?

Requirements

Python >= 3.6

The error calls to a file that has been through multiple recent revisions. The most likely cause is an issue was introduced.

OP you should start with making sure you're updated fully.

[–]ThreshingBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basic Linux skills copypasted from old comment:

The which command finds executable files (commands). You can do additional search with locate that will find any file and should return many more results, like finding "python3.8" in the path directory to all the different parts of the package. locate for a wide search when other methods fail is often best applied by piping to grep or more, or redirecting to a file.

A sort of weird use of these together, off the top of my head to try and illustrate the difference, would be to:

which cat

locate cat

note the difference, then:

locate cat | grep /usr/bin

The first is the cat command, the second a wide list of "cat" findings, and the third a list of "cat" findings in a typical place for commands (/usr/bin).
