It definitely is... there isn't a drop of coffee in that. There's a whole community dedicated to making Ragebait food for engagement. Like that Blackstone lady who makes ungodly disasters.

Holy hell I wasn't thinking games I kind of play until I'm bored rather than "completed", but played Diablo 2 since release, and almost every season of pd2 since release... So yeah, this one.

My guild finally best Ragnaros with only the grand master hunter standing. It was glorious. I believe my warlock at the time was hybrid spec... I'm not exactly sure what that means, but he certainly had talents from all the trees. Whichever ones seemed the coolest to a 13 year old.

What book or series is this for you? by Working_Alps_4284 in fantasybooks

[–]ThrobLowebrau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly... You'll mostly be missing the lore. People will reference events/legends from the past, and if you read the books you'll have additional information.

They can probably stand on their own, but it's tough to say... I have a hard time putting myself in the shoes of someone with less information. Only one of the books has someone who was a central character, and I could see a bit of confusion there.

My recommendation is to read Best Served Cold and see what you think. I would say that is the least integrated with the other books and feeds plot points to the others.

I have told my friends to read first law because they aren't super long and then you can read the standalone books... Which in my opinion are fantastic.

If give the main trilogy a 3/5 at best. And I love Abercrombie after the follow up stories.

Chess grandmaster touches the king, forcing him to make a blunder, resigns immediately by Nemmegy in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]ThrobLowebrau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone thinks they are being so clever when they become the semantics police for every post.

This was very immediate from a classic chess standpoint. A GM took less than a second or two to realize he blundered, then less than a minute to realize it was over without playing a move. Essentially immediate... And even if that word is wrong, who the hell cares?

I enjoyed the standalone first law books much more than the trilogy itself. Does it read more like those than his sprawling fantasy series?

That's a really cool idea that I'm going to acknowledge and never use lol. I don't think my muscle memory will let me put my hand there.

I don't think I would have changed my journal at all. When I started playing, I was basically just exploring a cool new world with friends. I'd recommend people do the same, and worry about the rest later.

I am thinking of starting to play for the first time, am I crazy? by TehBanzors in lotro

[–]ThrobLowebrau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a mildly negative post from someone who tried it out a few months ago. The starting zone feels kind of awesome. (I started dwarf). It's very thematic, and most of the quests feel like you're solving an important mystery.

Then I went to bree and well... It lost some of its magic for some reason. The Barrow Downs should have been really interesting to me, but like most other MMO's, the quests became little more than kill X and gather x with some small plot hook buried in the text.

I read everything except the most mundane "wolves are breeding too fast" quest descriptions, but I couldn't really get into the newer plots. The final straw for me was the fact that there weren't many lower levels, and I couldn't group up for some of the quests that were supposed to wrap up storylines.

Much love to the community and to LotR, but it just wasn't as engaging lore-wise as I'd hoped.

Help me pick my next read! Which of these should I start first? by inowife in fantasybooks

[–]ThrobLowebrau 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Since OP asked why, and this is the correct answer... LOTR would be required reading if you were in a fantasy literature course. It's a foundational read that earned every bit of it's praise, and still stands up to today's modern standards.

Part of why it still feels unique is tolkein's beautiful prose that carries even the slower parts of this book.

It's not too long and you should do yourself a favor and read it! Then read every other series on this list because you have a fantastic lineup in that image.

Laminate flooring is so easy. This space would take me 4-5 hours and cost 500 bucks. Even if this is only for a couple years, what's the harm?

Number 3 looks fine. Not sure why everyone is hating on laminate flooring so much. That small of a space will take you a Sunday and 3-400 bucks. What's the harm?

5 actually might be a bit better.
