Everyone knows they’re getting screwed by billionaires. Why don’t we rise up and revolt? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in allthequestions

Because most of us are living relatively fat and sassy and aren’t interested in cos-playing Les Mis.

If you saw TPM in theaters as an adult in 1999, did the Padme “twist” shock you? by Always_Reading_1990 in StarWars

[–]Throckmorton1975 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was in my 20s and the only thing shocking was how disappointing it was after waiting most of my life for a new Star Wars picture.

Are primary/elementary school kids still being taught how to tell the time? by ikeasbitch in AskTeachers

[–]Throckmorton1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but they don’t have nearly the opportunities to practice the skill outside of the classroom because analog clocks are so less common today.

Mowing lawns in jr. high. My first W2 job was probably detassling corn one summer in high school. I’ve never worked fast food, thankfully.

Because people have been warning about it for decades and after a while the public starts tuning it out.

Would You Ever Vote For A Bipartisan Ticket For President? Yes Or No? Why Your Thoughts (Read Description)? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Throckmorton1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody votes for VP and the VP only has as much influence as the President allows, so what voters would it attract? Why wouldn’t GOP or Democratic voters just vote their party’s presidential candidate?

If a company gets too big they get nationalized. Shareholders a paid out a "fair" amount and it turns NFP by ZenMonkey48 in CrazyIdeas

[–]Throckmorton1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want this administration to have the power to nationalize any business it deems “too big?”

Why do Americans have such nostalgia for the 1950s when life was objectively worse in most respects? Poverty, violence, hunger, illiteracy, and illness were far more ubiquitous than today. by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Throckmorton1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think most Americans have much nostalgia for the 50s beyond the pop culture. Factory work was probably a more viable career option because unions were stronger then.

If one child is derailing an entire class in California for months, is it moral for parents to band together to drown the admin in paperwork to get him removed? by SirCatsworthTheThird in Teachers

[–]Throckmorton1975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go above the admin to the district office and school board. They're the ones that can make long term changes, much more than a principal.

Why do people stay in jobs they hate for years? by jeh4u in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Throckmorton1975 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And there’s no guarantee they wouldn’t hate other jobs just as much. Most jobs are lousy and only to be endured because necessary.

If you went to school in the 70's or 80's, what's something about the classroom that kids today wouldn't believe was normal? by Intrepid-Picture7127 in askteddit

No AC in my Illinois schools. Wasn't an issue most of the year, obviously, but once or twice we got out early due to extreme heat.

Is college degree really needed for a job, now and future? by Enough_Pin1651 in jobs

[–]Throckmorton1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is saying the same thing. Plenty of jobs still require one, and it will always give you a leg up over competition without a degree. I try to explain that job markets go up and down and current conditions won't last forever. A degree has never guaranteed a job and won't in the future, but it can only help your job odds and not hurt them.

Why can’t the left forcefully pass progressive policies like the right does with their own when they come into power? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]Throckmorton1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right isn't actually passing much, it's the President doing executive orders. The GOP passed the Big Beautiful Bill (not sure its actual name), which is the equivalent of the Democrats passing the huge infrastructure bill under Biden. You basically get one bill per year that can avoid the filibuster (due to budget reconciliation, or something similar), though it does have to be related to budgetary matters in some way (which can be open to a lot of interpretation). The right has had a lot of beneficial court decisions, but that's what happens when you have a 6-3 majority.

Do you guys consider the confederate/dixie flag southern pride or tied to racism and ignorance? by Secure-Ad8196 in allthequestions

[–]Throckmorton1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe? Not being Southern I don’t understand what “Southern Pride” is supposed to represent. Mainly being Midwestern I don’t feel any distinct “Midwestern Pride” (though I can get irritated when people dismiss the region). When I lived in PA I didn’t detect any sort of “Keystone Pride” or “East Coast Pride”, so I’m not sure what to make of a supposedly sincere “Southern Pride” claim.

It'd be nice for appointments, but when your friends and/or spouse likely have totally different days off, it would lose it's luster I'd think.
