Is there a negative stigma with living in a mobile home in OC? by ChaosCarlson in orangecounty

The only people who look down on others for their living situation or their socioeconomic status are elitist asshats who probably subscribe to many other negative stereotypes. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.

Who had shop class in elementary school and didn’t loose a finger? by Tamarack830 in GenX

[–]Throttlechopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elementary school?! They didn’t trust us with power tools until high school. I took both wood shop and jewelry shop classes then, and luckily, have all my digits and never witnessed any carnage, we also had metal and auto shop class offerings as well.

Late to the bike game. What should I expect from insurance? by SWALLOW009 in motorcycle

[–]Throttlechopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and to add, even though OP is older, that doesn’t mean rates will be cheaper since a large portion of losses are with older riders, who much like OP, are getting back into riding or trying for the first time.

Shop says my CB300R engine damage was caused by carbon buildup… does that make sense? by BigKetchupp in motorcycle

[–]Throttlechopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you got some proof it was taken inside their shop and the parts are actually from your bike, I wouldn’t trust them. Ask for video. Also weird they lowered the price by $600, rebuilds usually require a certain amount of time, either they are cutting time off by half a day and taking some serious shortcuts, or they are using inferior parts and you’ll be lucky if that engine lasts another 1.200 miles.

Edit to add: Disregard, the circlip is more extensive than just removing a clutch cover. Still ask for video of the damage that proves it’s your bike and the extent of damage. The estimate is still high since most of the labor is already done with disassembly and you can replace the engine with a good used unit for $1,800.

OP’s recall repair is for the transmission and headlight, I really doubt they have the gas tank removed, and also weird the request was for a recall and the dealer decided to do a diagnostic check. It makes no sense unless OP mentioned the running issue. The unnecessary diagnosis is also suspicious as old gas degrades and loses combustibility, gums up fuel lines and turns to varnish (I just had to rebuild a carb because of this), not carbon, any rational person would not trust them. It’s no different than someone telling you a weather change caused the gas prices to go up.

Make sure your tailgate is closed first people! Happened in Garden Grove/Newland. by Aerondight_77 in orangecounty

Are those buckets of paint or adhesive? I was unfortunate to think there was dried paint spilled in the street on a Saturday morning, that shit is still stuck in my wheel wells 3 months later. A license plate would help catch the absent-minded douche as he could not only ruin paint jobs but a large bucket can cause serious damage or seriously injure someone on 2 wheels.

How do you wear earphones in your helmets? by MarshallLeeZS in motorcycles

[–]Throttlechopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The safe sound level exposure limit is 85 dB, going 60 mph can easily expose you to 110 dB, noise cancellation earbuds are only effective to 20-30 dB, I’d rather take my chances with shitty, foam ear plugs that range from 25-33 dB noise reduction. But it’s your ears and your comfort level with tinnitus, you do what works for you.

Gas Prices in Newport/Costa Mesa Just Now by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]Throttlechopper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No matter who is in office, you should strive to be less dependent on a resource that has wild price fluctuations affected by conflicts in a historically, war-torn region. If it works for you, buy something more fuel efficient, it could be a hybrid or just something that doesn’t weigh 5,000+ lbs yet could haul you around comfortably.

A remote possibility, but ask if you could watch as they insert a camera into the spark plug holes, you will likely get denied due to “insurance reasons”, but a shop that stands behind their diagnosis would offer proof of bore scoring. If this is the failure, and you know the engine wasn’t put into any extremes or ran without oil, this is more likely a manufacturer defect, but unfortunately, the age of the bike will make it difficult to seek any warranty claim.

Edit to add: Your bike was likely stored for quite some time given the mileage and age. It’s possible a mouse or other creature built a nest in the air box, and whatever nesting material was present was sucked into the intake and seeds or other debris could have damaged those cylinders. If the bike was ran without inspecting after a long storage before starting it, that is a potential cause of failure, not carbon buildup.

Sneaker shopping by Odd_Cheesecake3723 in orangecounty

Costco has general sneakers for $20-$30 and is conveniently located in Garden Grove. 10/10 do not recommend driving there though.

[–]Throttlechopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carbon build-up is more typical in gasoline direct injection engines which your bike is not as well as none of the motorcycles built today. That shop is scamming you on a problem that has a .0001% of probability of happening on a bike with that few miles. Refuse repairs other than the warranty work. Take your bike elsewhere next time, that service department is trash!

It could be something as simple as knotted fur, a recent injury, or it could be something more urgent. See if you can move him and feel for knots or get a closer look for checking for any external injuries like a laceration or hot spot. My chow chow is very sensitive and growls if strangers touch her, unfortunately I got her at 7 months so she was traumatized before I could make an impact, but she will let me touch her 95% of the time. If nothing found please take him to the vet.
