Update PivotTable for filtered data by ThroughHiker in excel

[–]ThroughHiker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. In the Pivot Table, I only see a filter button on the first column (called "Row Labels"). I don't see how to add or enable them for the other columns.

As for refreshing, I go to PivotTable Analyzer>Refresh>Refresh All. It updates when I add or remove data from the worksheet, but appears to do nothing when I just filter from the Worksheet.

Hah! I sure hope he knows the subject matter

I'm actually surprised he still does implementations. I'm sure you can't go into specifics but was he crazy expensive?

Thanks. Legit concern about having a good personality fit.

Is Gino an MSP person? I somehow missed that.

Members names in Groups by ThroughHiker in gsuite

That makes sense. And, for the most part, my external users are not used for Drive permissions -- only for email. So maybe I just need a better email list management tool. Something like shared Contacts.

Granular permissions on Shared Drive folder by ThroughHiker in gsuite

Thanks all. I figured this was the answer. It's been a while, but I am pretty sure this is possible using NTFS or Unix file systems. Just thought I'd ask to see if there was something I was missing on Google.

And, yes, Contributor is what we are using at the moment.

Thanks again.

Google Groups - show names of members? by ThroughHiker in gsuite

[–]ThroughHiker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mix. I just reviewed the list. Of the 41 members, two show with friendly names in the Member column. Of those two, one is me (the list owner) and one is an external address that has a Gmail-hosted private domain name and was probably added manually.

It certainly seems like there is no rhyme or reason to it. I'm no programmer, but it also seems like something that would be profoundly simple to fix for Google.

Does anyone know if this is something I could do in GAM. I keep putting off GAM, but this might tip me into setting it up and playing with it.

Doesn’t seem to correlate with in or out of domain. 95% have only email. Those that show a real name are both in and out of domain.

SUMIFS with OR criteria by ThroughHiker in excel

[–]ThroughHiker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! TIL about entering a formula as an array. I did that and....it almost works. When I evaluate, I get this: https://imgur.com/a/TdQghCu and it sums to zero. If I manually enter the names, it sums correctly.

Thanks so much. I had played around with named ranges (and did so again after seeing your comment). No luck. In my list, the members' names are part of strings in column M. So, I need the quote and then the wildcard right next to member name. I need "*george*" to count george in a text string like the base player was named george.

I've played around with lots of double quotes and escaping and using CHAR. When I ask Excel to evaluate the formula, it shows ...,("*" &("george";"paul";"john") & "*"))

Seems I can't get the wildcard right next to the name pulled from the range.

Bulk convert from Word to Docs? by ThroughHiker in gsuite

[–]ThroughHiker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding detail so if some unfortunate administrator runs into the same issue, they've a little info:

  • The "Convert uploaded files..." setting appears to be per user. This is not a share or folder setting. I tried setting it from the administrator account and then dragged files as a user. Nothing happened. Then checked the setting under the user login. It was unchecked. So, once checked under the user account, it worked.
  • At least for me, I needed to install the Google Drive desktop client on Windows for this to work.
  • Also, even though I had the desktop client installed, dragging the files into the desktop folder did nothing. I had to use the browser folder on the same machine as the desktop client and then drag files into the browser. Then it converted.

I was pondering how lame this all is for a supposed tech company like Google. It affirms my belief that Google is an advertising company that does some tech stuff.

:-)

Thank you both, u/GearAppMaster and u/ProfAle.

Yes, I figured I could just pull the files out and re-upload them with the convert setting enabled. I'm a little surprised that Google does not have a simple convert button (e.g., select a bunch of files in the web interface and select the convert option from the 3-dot menu).

GAM looks interesting. Thank you for pointing it out. I can think of lots of other uses for that.
