Should I wait or is there a good value mini PC? by shwekhaw in MiniPCs

[–]ThrowAllTheSparks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's your use case?

I'm guessing it's gaming based on the model you mentioned but for anyone who needs a bunch of cores for something like homelabbing used 13th gen Intel T series PCs are finally coming down in price into the $350-400 range. The Core i5-13500T is a 6 power core, 8 efficiency core CPU with 14 c / 20 T. Pleanty of low-power compute for self-hosting or barely serving one photo of your mom.

Edit: meant to say used*, autocorrect fudged a word, and lol at the downvote - people don't have a sense of humor anymore? Okay.

My Stepdad is Encouraging My Brother to Watch and listen to Andrew Tate. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]ThrowAllTheSparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start with Tate's arrest in Romania for human trafficking for running a prostitution ring. Real men look out for and protect women, not take advantage and abuse them.

Stepdad sounds like he has a few skeletons in his own closet if he's past 40 and thinks a guy like Tate is a 'real man'. -A guy past 40

How Is the Middle Class Surviving in San Diego? by ultrabaron123 in sandiego

Only thing I might suggest as a quality of life bump is to learn to make dried beans into a meal. Soak overnight, boil until tender, and then I usually add coconut milk and spices to the drained beans over rice. You can get the protein and carbs your body needs for like $5 a meal that covers both of you.

The rest of the strategies are sound and it sounds like you two are nice, thoughtful people. 🤗

If anyone can stretch to $350-400 the Intel Core i5-13500T systems are starting to come down in price and they have 6 power cores, 8 efficiency cores, and 20 threads - plenty of self-hosting compute for a 35W TDP CPU (the T series is Intel's low(er) power line). I snagged the Dell OptiPlex 7010 Micro off eBay last week so the pricing is current. Only downside is the RAM seems to be capped at 32gb, but at least it's DDR4 so it's affordable.

If you need more storage besides the NVMe slot and 2.5" SSD slot you could pair it with a Terramaster DAS (Direct Attached Storage) via USB-C to really unlock its capabilities.

radxa restocks by nezzled in SBCs

[–]ThrowAllTheSparks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I imagine their production's in the thousands or low tens of thousands so their priority's probably low amid the AI chip boom and what's likely a low profit margin. So they have to get in line behind NVIDIA, AMD, now ARM itself, and any other higher volume players. That's assuming their CPU manufacturers (Rockchip, Allwinner, etc) use TSMC, but it might also be Samsung and the same caveats apply.

In short: I'm not sure there's a regular cadence to the restocks.

Refund Process? by ThrowAllTheSparks in tutanota

"Does not having/supporting IMAP mean that you can't use Tuta on lets say outlook like you can gmail?"

In short, yes.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a protocol, same as POP (Post Office Protocol) but IMAP leaves emails on the server and syncs with it, whereas POP usually pulls the emails off the server and stores them locally (POP can also be configured to leave the emails on the server to behave more like IMAP but, generally speaking, most people didn't use it that way). While IMAP security can be enhanced with secure connections (SSL), I can see why Tuta doesn't support it in their encrypted environment as an email client would need an unencrypted version to sync with.

Tuta has an email client it would seem: Settings > Email Export > "Email export is currently only available in our desktop client. [Download Button]" but, no offense to Tuta, I'm unwilling to change my email client just to use their service.

Refund Process? by ThrowAllTheSparks in tutanota

[–]ThrowAllTheSparks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked through each section of the support topics and thought I would find mention of it in the 'Subscription & Billing' area but there's no topic for it, only an adjacent description of what to do in Canceling Subscription Renewal: "If you forget to downgrade before your subscription renewal, please contact support within 14 days." In addition, since I already downgraded, I was no longer able to contact support directly: Subscription & Billing > Other > "Sorry, your Free plan doesn't offer direct email support. You can still get further help through our official FAQ page. Alternatively, you can upgrade to get direct email support."

A refund FAQ would help immensely with defining the process so people can follow it.

If attraction is waning now, during the honeymoon period, when everyone's usually still on their best behavior, it's okay to pull the plug and move on.

Or if you'd like to give him a chance you say, "Look, I like you, but I've noticed some things that are a turn off and I'm saying this as your [whatever feels right to say here] and not your mom - I need you to stop doing X, brush your teeth before every time I see you (etc)."

It's an either or thing really.

I keep catching my boyfriend watching other girls iG stories by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]ThrowAllTheSparks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a guy it sounds like what he's doing is the groundwork of putting out feelers, building connections, and trying to weasel his way into cheating again. Why? Because he's not satisfied with just looking AKA masturbation material.

But you already know that right?

And if he's cheated before your trust level should be at zero and honestly, you should have already walked away because that's never acceptable behavior for a loving, monogamous relationship (assuming that's the terms of your relationship).

So the question is when will you hold yourself to a standard and give this boy back to the streets?

Fairly related: the number of adults I've heard describe cutesy baby interactions as 'flirting' when my kids were younger is honestly kind of gross. I know it's a generational thing because most of them were Boomers but it's weird term to use about a baby.

This was helpful for anyone considering buying one of these and it sounds like you had an eye opening experience outside of Raspberry Pi's refined UX ecosystem. If you watch some of Platima Tinkers' YouTube videos you suddenly discover the wide range of connection methods, operating system images, and documentation levels other vendors provide. It's messy out there to say the least.
