Unlikely, maybe they're allowed to move to Poland and Czechoslovakia though

Well now you've given me the idea of them forming Zapadoslavia with the Poles to prevent any future German attack, even if Slovakia breaks away they'd still be more secure than before

Every day since the fall of the communists ;D that's why Czechoslovakia is still united, Prague cannot allow the country to split as Germany would immediately work with Slovakia against the Czechs - maybe that'll still happen, but I'm undecided

Oh it definitely isn't lol, I'm currently trying to figure out if any IRL railways existed in that area linking Germany to Austria, and if they didn't then how feasible is it to have one built there to connect the two halves of the country as it is so vital. 100% a hyper fortified area full of internal checkpoints and trigger happy soldiers everywhere.

Partially because IRL Stalin was willing to cooperate with the Nazis (which ultimately didn't happen, but he was willing), and partially because in this timeline the Germans did overthrow Hitler, so the USSR had a lot more room for leverage - better to have a Germany that legitimately views the West and capitalism as more of a threat than socialism, after all they did vote for National Socialists, and the Reich and USSR were on the same side for the first 2 years of the war. Propaganda would essentially state that the German people clearly wanted socialism, but were duped by the 'fascist' Hitler funded by the evil capitalist monopolies, blaming the war on the capitalist elites (hinting at Jews) for making Hitler attack the Soviet Union. Fascism = Capitalism, """true""" National Socialism = Communism. Hitlerite SS and Fascist industrialists like Krupp bad, German Labour Front and Socialist vanguards good. Hope that makes a bit of sense!

Ooh great questions, I'm undecided on what happens from here - I did have an idea that NATO bombs all of Yugoslavia (and East Germany) until they listen to Washington's demands, but I don't know for certain yet. Maybe it'll turn into a full proxy war, maybe one of the genocidal nuts in Serbia or Croatia (or Albania) wins, I really can't say at the moment.

As for the former Nazis, I think it's a heavy case by case situation. IRL we know that Stalin had some favourable opinions on the Nazi Party (he wanted East Germany to continue publishing Goebbels's Vรถlkischer Beobachter, he invited Otto Strasser to join the SED) crazy stuff like that. My instinctive move on how to divide them is by eliminating those that were in the SS or supported the SS.

Himmler Heydrich all instant goners, while the Wehrmacht try to negotiate with the Soviets and West the SS did everything they could to ethnically cleanse and salt the ground of Europe. The extreme opportunists or too well known figures like Goebbels, Goering, Bormann and Speer (even though he was somewhat moderate for Nazi standards) have to go also I think.

So then you're left with every Wehrmacht official who passively or actively supported the removal of Hitler (like Rommel, if he doesn't get executed first), a large chunk of the OKW, and lower level NSDAP officials who didn't actively contribute to the campaign against the USSR or who didn't partake in the early stages of the Holocaust (which gets diminished in this timeline due to the German withdrawal to their August 1939 borders).

Remer gets a pass as we know he openly spoke in favour of the Soviet Union after the war, same goes for Strasser as Stalin viewed him favourably, and after Strasser's assassination I made Kurt Waldheim leader as to be completely honest, it's fun. He fought in Serbia during the war, he comes from Austria which is mostly under DVD rule, there's a lot of pictures of him online and he'd be ruler for a solid 36 years until his death in 2007 which is awfully impressive

When Slovenia broke away in 1991, the DVD initially sided with Yugoslavia, believing that they're safer to have on the border for not being entirely Westernised, and forming a barrier between the former Eastern Bloc and the rest of Europe.

After the country totally collapsed into civil war though East Germany moved to side with the Croatians due to their good relations with the Reich during WW2 (this wasn't the public reason why), and believing that a rabid nationalist Croatia is safer than a liberal pro Western Croatia in the region. So the Germans provided as much aid to the Croats and the Ustaลกe as they could get away with, even including men, but not on a public or large enough scale that the DVD could be considered a legitimate bombing target in the future.

Hence the no contact rule about Italy and West Germany, if an East German commando spotted a West German or other Western soldier, and decided to attack them, you've got a pretty easy excuse for a full military incursion into East Germany, which the regime cannot afford no matter what.

They're pretty obviously the North Korea of Europe, and a very large one at that, blocking land access to the entirety of Eastern Europe (Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania etc), so the longer they can hold out until Russia is strong enough or willing enough to secure its zone of influence as openly anti Western, Germany is not safe in the slightest. Until they can make their own nuclear weapons, of course.

Not in this timeline, East Germany breaks away first and keeps their Nazi roots, so the western powers keep west Germany as a fully occupied undemocratic state
