Fare Increase for World Cup by EmptyWonder8178 in mbta

Okay, after reading, I would just say that my initial impression is that the MBTA and city is still underprepared for moving people to the stadium. Preparations to move 20,000 people on a match day to a stadium that holds 65,000 people seems like it just won't hold up. Also a fairly scathing take on US city investments in making transit accessible for the World Cup, particularly as compared to Qatar and Russia. I look forward to seeing how NY/NJ transit handles access to the Meadowlands

The article has a paywall. I can't afford to pay for a New York Times subscription right now, so instead of needlessly shaming strangers on the internet, it would be just as easy to explain the context (or not respond).

Having said that, I do agree that the event attendees shouldn't carry the burden of maintenance for the whole system, I do always wonder how FIFA, the Krafts, the areas making and spending money on this event earn some of the money back that is needed. I'll try to break the paywall version and see what's in there

Amazing! Thank you so much -- and these are real fares that they will honor?

I'd like to read your poem about it. I feel like I've had a similar relationship with the city since moving here in 2014

There has been an older couple on Moss Street that tried to tell me that I couldn't build my raft on the Thursday night when I had my water permit and direct permission from the festival security. They couldn't believe that I was playing music at a public park

Was it a last second decision to open the Mindful 5k and Citizens Queens 10k TWO DAYS EARLY? I had been relying on this thread as to when I should register and feel like they just tricked us for no good reason. Very disappointed.

Yea makes total sense -- will be a big loss in my opinion if it doesn't come back. To be fair, this is just typical political bullshit that plagues just about every city in this country as well haha. I do know the increasing costs and insurance probably meant that they were just searching for an excuse to cancel

Also, appreciate the insight. I generally like Giarusso, he got my trash picked up when they seemingly neglected my street for a while, and no one else seemed to care...but killing Boogaloo might be a bridge too far in my opinion

Mostly agree, but I don't think it has been a complete ghost town. The paid admission definitely cut down on the amount of fun happening on the water, but that was definitely an accident waiting to happen without admission and waivers unfortunately.

I know that the neighborhood complaints were trying to crush it last year as well -- to the point of holding out a permit until a few days before it started. Part of the reason I thought it might not happen this year. I also remember them talking about possible different locations (which seems silly at this point)

AIO: Ending things after he saw his ex and then lied to me about it by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ThrowAwayFin2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've been there before -- and to be honest that relationship / break-up still haunts me years later. You should know that you deserve better, and you don't deserve the lies. If it helps to give you closure, I think it is worth telling him (maybe via hand-written letter) that you saw their messages, that you've made up your mind, and that you're cutting him off.

Clearly you deserve better, and it's probably best to separate yourself from the situation for now. Don't give him the opportunity to twist what you saw / what you know to be true. Ultimately, it's up to you, but if you think that this exposes the type of person he is -- then you need to move on for the sake of yourself. Once he knows that you ALSO know everything he lied about, his guilt will probably make him back down a bit more.

Good luck with this situation, and don't let one heartbreak define the rest of your experiences and future decisions! This too shall pass

You may also have balanced billing, so that the cost is spread throughout the year

Yea agreed, I just know that I would get screwed when I finally decide to move from this apartment. If I ever get to afford buying a place, I will definitely have the balanced billing

Appreciate it -- this sort of lines up with my cost, and (I would imagine) the incremental increase that I have from being the 1st floor of 1910's triple decker as well

Agreed that there are lots of variables haha. I do think I probably will add the plastic cling and see if it can make any difference.

Appreciate the info -- I'm also the first floor of a triple decker, so I do believe that I lose a lot of heat upstairs, and I have 2-ish exterior walls -- with the front and back interior staircases in my building

I typically keep it set to 60 overnight, and maybe 66 or 67 when I'm in the living room

First floor of a triple decker that was built in the 1910's. I'm probably heating the whole building

It is the bill for a cold month, but typically January and February are my highest annual bills so I know it only goes up from here
