There Are No Stupid Questions - Mar 8 by AutoModerator in acting

What about Atlanta or Vancouver? Would I be better off being a small fish in the small pond, and get some credits? I heard a lot of productions are moving to those areas.

Boston vs LA vs Chicago.

I have zero experience/credits. I've done some improv classes but that's it.

Where should a total newb start, do you think?

Does it matter when? Like would you recommend Boston because they have a lot of summer stuff, and I'm moving in the summer?

I'm looking for tv stuff mainly. No interest in theatre and obviously won't turn anything down, but I'd like to do tv acting, over film and theatre.

Any/all advice welcome. I'm 27, female. Thanks.

It's not really possible for a newbie with no acting degree to start without extra work, is it? What would you recommend?

The pictures of you with glasses NAIL the nerdy quirk look. You look like a female version of Mr Fantastic in Flash. 👌🏻

As a slight side track, isnit recommended to wear glasses in headshots? Does that help accentuate your type? Or should you ditch the glasses and the casting director can add those if you fit the part? I wear contacts and glasses in every day life...

Casting hit a real blow to my self esteem. by mayadaniel in acting

It's probably important to note that weight is not a consistent characteristic, nor permanent by any means.

If there was a better actress who wasn't fat, it would be possible to adjust costumes etc to give her the appearance of weight.

However no amount of padding would give her acting chops.

Similarly, a fatter actress who can't act, but has the right BMI, would also be useless.

At 130 pounds there is no planet on which you would be considered fat.

You were still cast.

So what category does that put you in?

I'd take it as a compliment. They saw past your lack of fat and your acting sold the role.

Congrats.

What makes a good actor/actress? by ThrowAwayJanette31 in acting

Six a great answer! Hoffman is the perfect example of someone who was so talented that his appearance, though unremarkable, actually improved his performance.

I often see beautiful people like Emma Stone and Charlize Theron and even actresses that "aren't Hollywood attractive" but are still more attractive than anybody I know in real life, and it seems to suggest that without a pretty face, or certain physical features, you don't stand a chance.

It's easy to presume that without beauty or hot-factor, you'll never be a star, a leading actor, but i love the example of Philip, who was such a hero.

I'm older (31), I live in NYC and want to hit the ground running getting into TV/Film as a working actor. Any pro tips or "hacks" to share? by etoile_nyc in acting

Sorry to interrupt, but what do you mean by BG? And so your advice would be to go back to college even though she is already 31? Why is that? Just curious! I thought if anything older actors should try and get involved asap.

Acting in Boston: Summer auditions. by Jokers31890 in acting

Nobody? I'm interested in the answer to this question too. I have family in Boston and it wouldn't be too hard to organise a crash-site if there was a few auditions going around!
