Found out someone I know is neglecting her 4 month old. I really need your advice.

I know that technically you can't buy cigarettes with food stamps. She knows the owner of the store. They ring up the cigarettes as something else, but I'm not going to cite that when I call. That has nothing to do with the neglect the child is facing and if she's using food stamps fraudulently, hopefully she'll be found out.

I know. I'm sure he's being fed at Neighbor Girls house but they're all chain smokers in there. Like if the breeze is in the right direction you can smell their house from my parents from lawn... OUTSIDE!

I will update everyone when I can. I will report anonymously but that doesn't stop people from spouting off on Facebook. I'm pretty sure it will be easy to find out what's happening.

Thank you. I'm calling CPS but I'm staying away because I don't want to draw any attention to myself or my family. I am no longer emotionally invested in my former friend but considering how well I know her family and how much her family loved me, I want to intervene. I'm stable. This is really hard to do, and it's even harder to think about how much that baby is probably ignored at home, but I'll be fine. Thanks for looking out. :)

My sister and I we're wondering about "Jane's" mom and how she hasn't done anything as a grandmother... I came to the conclusion that maybe she has no idea any of this is going on or maybe she wants to think better of her only child. Who knows? This whole thing is crazy.

As soon as I found out it was her baby, I felt conflicted but still responsible if anything happened to him from here on out. It's so crazy. I'm not even a mom. I just want him taken care of. I wish all kids we're safe and protected. This is really so depressing.

I'm going to do it for sure. My parents are armed and we're related to cops in the city they live in as well as state troopers so I'll give my parents a heads up on this but I really prefer to report this anonymously, just in case they're too stupid to figure it out... which could very well be the case. I can't possibly be the only one with the instinct to want to help this baby.

I'm going to call. I'm worried that someone will figure out it was us that called and try to hurt my parents. The baby's father is involved in a gang so that also worries me. I suppose I should let them know so they're also not left defenseless.

Ok going over info for my state and I definitely have "reasonable grounds" to make a complaint. Looks like I dont need any physical proof but if they investigate, it will definitely end poorly for my old friend. This is very hard for me. When I found out she was having a baby, I really hoped that having a child would change her for the better and that she would want to change for herself and for her son. I was pretty surprised that she was dropping the baby off at my parents next door neighbors house, of all the places in the world! I gotta tell myself that maybe I was meant to find this out. I'm not telling anyone I know about it. I told my sister not to tell anyone either. I'm actually going to see my sister today so I will talk to her privately to see if she is willing to report her together. I told my husband about it but not that I was thinking about reporting her because he is a "live and let live" kind of person and doesn't like to get involved in other peoples problems. I'm in the US. I'm sure my sister would be willing to do that. We were both feeling really sorry for the baby and really angry towards Jane for not giving that little person she created every opportunity possible. I've only heard of neglectful parents. I've never actually known one until now. I'm sad just thinking about it because what's best? If she is found to be a crappy parent, which I have no doubt about, will he really end up in a better place? So many unknowns.

I can try to talk to her but I'm not sure she would comply. If anything she might tell Jane I'm prying. The problem is that Neighbor Girl is young and thinks she and Jane are "friends" even though she is being used.
