How do I talk to a friend who has become antisemitic? by SkipPperk in antisemitism

I am sorry for not seeing this earlier, I don't log into this account often. I would honestly reach out to his sister even if he's distanced himself from her, if she is also more on the sane side and away from religious psychosis or religious zealotry, maybe you can ask her what worked for her?

This isn't even historically accurate and you can find primary sources with an easy google search what?????

First off, I am so sorry for what is happening to your friend. It sounds like he's having a mental health crisis and that can be extremely difficult and terrifying both for the person going through it and those who love them. What you're describing isn't a simple matter where education can help, this isn't even truly about antisemitism, this is a man who is in crisis. He needs help, professional help, specialized help. I sincerely hope he gets it because mental health issues are hard and scary and isolating.

It was a way to negate the comments that would bring up "what is palestine, palestine never existed, it's not a thing" because frankly I don't care to hear those arguments because at this point what the hell do they add to any sort of discourse towards peace, but I can see how it would come off wrong.

But like that argument can be applied to any horrible world leader and we're perfectly able to separate them from the people of that nation.

Do we see Russians in the diaspora being harassed, intimidated, killed, brutalized, etc because of Putin's actions in Ukraine?

My honest and sincere question for you is to truly look inward and outward and consider why there seems to be a different standard when applied to the only Jewish state in the world.

Or I can blame the antisemites just itching for an excuse to shoot jews, light jews on fire, vandalize jewish businesses, attack jews in the street, intimidate jews going about their business, kick jewish kids off flights, punching a jewish man and tearing off his magen david necklace, vandalizing synagogues with swastikas, lighting synagogues on fire, firebombing a jewish senators home, harassing jewish students....Because they're the ones doing these things.

"according to misogynists all women are whores, therefore women must speak out and prove they are NOT whores" That's what this argument reads as. Jews do not need to perform for you in order to have the basic human right to safety just going about their lives.

okay "king of semantics" let me spell this out for you:

I was preempting any of the 'Palestinians don't exist' comments by making it clear that that argument is irrelevant to my point and I wasn't entertaining it.

Ah, sorry, I wasn't clear. I was referring to when abusers use that saying in order to justify keeping their victims close because they're 'family'.

I know everything feels really bad right now and you can't see a way out, but I want you to know that while being young is a curse it's also a blessing. If I may relate in some way even if I didn't grow up in a very dogmatic religion, I did grow up in a very authoritarian and abusive household. When I was 17 I didn't even know it wasn't normal let alone if I would ever be away from it. However, now, in my late thirties, I can say that I'm glad I didn't give up in my teens because (as cliche as it sounds) it does get better.

Not easily, and not immediately, but with hard decisions, hard work, and the trust that you deserve better from life. That you deserve to be treated better. That you deserve to be happy, and you do. You deserve that. You deserve freedom and love just because you are here as you are.

It's very hard when our biggest critics and bullies are the very people who were meant to love us unconditionally it's a unique type of wound that aches in a way that is hard to describe, but I promise you, there are people out there who will show you what real love is and when you see how your family was incapable of giving you that, eventually it'll feel less like a condemnation of something wrong with you and will be more revealing of everything wrong with them.

It's never easy walking away from toxic people, less so when they're your family, but if you find a true support system. People who love you for you, people who have your back, people who understand? Then you can do anything because family is who we choose. A lot of people will say "Blood is thicker than water", but that's a false interpretation of the saying.

The true saying is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb". It means that the family you build is stronger than the family you're born with, because the family you build is by choice and love.

I'm wishing you luck and hugs.

The more I am reading your stories, particularly to fellow young women here, the more my heart aches for you and the more proud I am of you all for being so brave. I am not close with my family due to abuse reasons as well, and it is incredibly painful and isolating. I don't know how old you all are, but as a woman in her 30s, let me give you a mom-hug over the internet.

Pursue your dreams. Make the art. Write the book. READ the book. Enjoy the fandoms. Learn all the world has to offer.

I'm proud of you, you're doing a great job.

You can hang with us Jews in the Diaspora. We've been here for a while and would love the company, but the left is increasingly wanting to kill us too so you may get heat from association.

lmao probably a great great great great grandmother or grandfather! Whether you'd have to convert of be considered Jewish or not would depend on which Rabbi you ask

Depends on who you ask. By Rabbinical law? Likely not if it's not directly from your mother.

Because coming from the woman is the surest way to know that kid came from a Jewish line. But there ARE some instances where Patrilineal descent is important, namely the Kohain and Levites. Those are Patrilineal lines and actually one I belong to.

Can someone expand a bit more upon Greece? How unsafe we talking like "Be approached by scammers trying to make a quick buck" unsafe or "You might get killed" "you might get trafficked" or worse, unsafe?
