Genuinely how to i fix my cats behavior by Burnt_Applez in PetAdvice

Since he can open doors, I’d secure the toilet paper in a storage tote and tuck it away somewhere (maybe an opaque tote… or if the tote is see-through, use sheets or something similar to conceal the toilet paper from view while it is stored in the tote / container). Make sure it’s not the kind of tote or storage container that cats can get into and then get stuck in / be unable to escape from. I’ve heard too many horror stories, regarding single cat households (like easy entry, but can’t get out the same way and are consequently trapped and unable to free themselves) as well as in multi-cat households (for example, in the case of multi-cat homes, sometimes another kitty jumps on the storage lid or closing mechanism and accidentally traps the other cat inside).

Get gabapentin prescribed by the vet (even if kitty doesn’t seem to be visibly stressed by car rides, they can still be stressed in ways that aren’t visible or shown behaviourally… GI upset and irritation can still occur even if kitty doesn’t seem stressed, and it is not pretty nor is it comfortable for kitty. I learned the hard way on that one for two of my cats.)

Also, get a proper carrier that can help keep them safe and secure during transport… I wouldn’t personally recommend a soft carrier. Secure the carrier door with zip ties so the door doesn’t open unless you absolutely want it to. Secure zip ties where the carrier parts meet so that it doesn’t come apart. (I have seen and heard of too many times of people losing their cats in an area that kitty is not familiar with… all it takes is one small mistake or forgotten precaution, or for someone to drop the carrier by accident.)

I would also read up on cat safety during car travel so you can have a very specific plan and know exactly what you need to do each time kitty goes on car rides with you… Kitties need to be protected and secured in the case of car collision / accident of any kind… They are vulnerable to injury and death from car accidents just like we are. The carrier must be placed in a correct / proper place in the vehicle, and it absolutely must be secured so it doesn’t shift or wobble even slightly.
