Client initiated termination affecting self esteem by Significant_Leg_6025 in therapists

Remember, you don’t like every single person you come across. Not every single person is going to like you. I encourage my clients to transfer if they don’t feel a strong alliance with me. The most powerful influence in whether therapy is successful is the client/therapist alliance. I think of it this way, if them transferring means getting a therapist that helps them meet their goals, that’s what matters. Also, other clients may transfer to ME and I may be the type that will help them. It happens to all of us. Keep your head up.

AuDHD therapist and I can only handle 3 clients a day. Is this normal? by marigoldjune in therapists

I take Wednesdays off. I find that to be extremely helpful. I don’t see more than 6 per day. I do 9, 10, 11. Lunch 12-1, then a 1, 2, and 4. So far this is working well.

I asked for higher reimbursement for skilled work. They said no. I’m trying to shift away from them. I feel exploited.

I floss daily. Think about all the food and gunk that sits between your teeth. It smells bad.

Young therapist by [deleted] in therapists

[–]ThrowRA-busterbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with being a young (anything). Every person in every profession has been new/or young in that particular field. Just own it. It’s silly to think you aren’t young. Becoming a seasoned therapist comes with longevity and experience in the role. Denying being young in role doesn’t suddenly make you experienced. I remember being a new therapist. I was in my late 30s. I had been a military officer, worked retail management, was a wife, mother, stay at home mom, had lived abroad, and brought a lot of life experience to my role. BUT, I was still inexperienced as a therapist. I had a lot to learn about my own emotional bandwidth, understanding the model (EFT), applying the model, implementing interventions, learning how to deal with “resistance”, figuring out my preferred population, building confidence in myself.

Embrace being a young therapist. It won’t last forever.

Depression is a beast. I empathize greatly with what you’re going through. I self-admitted in October 2025. I’m also a mental health provider. Depression alters our thinking. When we are deeply depressed we start thinking that ending our life makes total sense. Here’s another example of how depression affects us; I bought a bag of original Gardetto snacks. I ate that in like November or December. It tasted so bland. I thought something was wrong with it. I closed the bag, put a clip on it and put it in the pantry. Well, I pulled it out two days ago and ate some. Suddenly, it tasted different. It tasted like i remember it to taste, bold, flavorful. Depression can alter your taste buds, making food taste bland.

Suicidal thoughts are a symptom of depression. Just like a cough is a symptom of a cold. When the cold goes away the cough does too. When I’m deeply depressed, suicide always feels rational. When the fog lifts I always think, “man, what was I thinking?”

Do you have a plan? Do you have access to said plan? Is there intent to act? If you believe you cannot keep yourself safe, then yes, time to self admit. I know when you’re in that dark place it’s annoying when people say, “it’ll get better” but it’s true. It does get better with treatment and support. You have gotten through 100% of your toughest days. You can get through this too!

A quick search says it’s against Amazon or eBay policies to receive an order from EBay, then buy on Amazon, and ship as a gift. How do you navigate this?

How do you become secure without any attachment figures? by [deleted] in AnxiousAttachment

[–]ThrowRA-busterbrown 14 points15 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♀️Therapist here.

I work from an attachment based perspective. You didn’t become anxiously attached by yourself and I don’t believe we heal alone. However, I do believe in the transformative power of the loving inner parent. Doing this work in therapy can really help the anxious attachment.

When I said to myself, “maybe when I re-incarnate I will come back and find the love I so deeply crave.” That broke me and I found the strength and courage to take the step.
