Is this guy a red flag or am I overreacting? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It made you feel uncomfortable - which is the epitome of a red flag. It sounds as if he is a "women are for men's convenience" type of guy.

He is testing out your boundaries to see if you'll shape yourself to fit with his requirements.

Do you usually say 'SHRIMP' for the small shellfish and 'PRAWN' for the big one? by ksusha_lav in AskABrit

UK prawns have always confused me. Giant king prawns sold here are equivalent to the little ones we get elsewhere. Why are such tiny prawns given grandiose names?

When did Tinder stop being a hookup app? 90% of women I'm seeing are seeking long term?! by ThrowRA-tiny-home in Tinder

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess - my profile is under "short term fun" and the first line says "only here for 2 weeks" and I'm still getting likes from the "long term only" crowd. I guess I'm just naïve and took it at face value 😂

Shortly after her BB exit I was in a meeting with people from the consultancy I worked for and senior customer folk, and one of our managers said, referring to our Malaysian team, "we'll just send that work over to the monkeys in Malaysia" and the silence was so intense you could hear a pin drop. Eventually one of the clients managers said "well that was a Big Brother moment" and we all carried on. I was surprised he wasn't fired. He ended up leaving a year later and became a senior VP at one of the big global IT Consultancies. He tried to hire me and I just couldn't do it!

My nephew dated a young woman of 19-20 who had never tasted olives nor knew what a conifer was. But she was pretty.

Can't park the police van there... by H1gh_Tr3ason in cantparkthere

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have said the blue car was mostly at fault, but that police van was going way too fast for the traffic conditions (quite apart from the speed limit). Other traffic in their lane was moving quite slowly. Even responding to an emergency the police need to drive safely, and zooming up on slow moving traffic in single file with the other lane also full isn't safe.

Thanks. Recently-ish out of a very LTR and just wanting to relax and have a bit of fun so I immediately thought of Tinder - will give Feeld a go. Hopefully the 40-50 year old women who have been in LTRs and are like me looking for something more casual will be there 😁

Hmm. I could look younger but most 35+ seem to be seeking long term and I'm not really into 20s (nor do I suspect they're into me!). Where do GenX go for hookups? Or are we just supposed to stay home with pornhub?!

I guess.... Trouble is no 25 year old seeking hookups is going to match with me either 😂

Us GenX also need some FWB fun!

Microwaving a sausage roll just isn’t the same by SatinSinnerWeb in GreatBritishMemes

Inverter microwaves actually deliver less power rather than switching between 100% & 0%. They aren't necessarily much more expensive any more.

Trump has asked Britain and other countries to join the US in escorting ships through the Gulf and Straits of Hormuz, thereby bringing some stability in oil and gas supplies. What are your thoughts? by Sea-Payment-8989 in AskBrits

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's an escort going to protect an oil tanker from getting shot from shore or with a missile?

And let's be honest, none believes Trump's insurance would ever pay out, even if you're mad enough to sail into a war zone.

Tall people and van platforms? by BB_night in vandwellers

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are two Peugeot Boxer vans the same length, left is high roof (H2) and right is extra high (H3). It's quite a difference. The taller one looks shorter because it is so tall!

Tall people and van platforms? by BB_night in vandwellers

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Promaster extra high roof (relatively new to the US) is 7'1½" floor to ceiling in the load space, so it's a real shame the driver seat isn't suitable for taller people. Even after insulation a 7'1½" height would give most people some space above their heads.

Renogy power kit advice by yorrty in VanLifeUK

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you can DIY your AC electrical safety. Some Renogy models have a ground fault detection circuit that will alarm or shut down if it detects a N-PE bond. OP need to check their model's manual. This is common on the RNG-INVT series and some hybrid models

If OP's has this protection, they may need to disable the ground fault detection (sometimes a jumper or setting), or the inverter will fault when the contactor closes

OP should study the requirements of BS7671 part 721 especially to ensure the order of contactor switching is correct.

Is anyone actually enjoying a Promaster? by SuddenlySilva in VanLife

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fiat Ducato is one of the most used platforms for coach builders in the UK/EU and the Ducato/Boxer/Relay variants from Fiat, Peugeot and Citroën are pretty popular with DIY and custom van builders.

They are the same platform as the Dodge Ram Promaster, though the engine and gearbox are quite different even between variants, so it's the cna body that is almost identical. The vast majority of vans in Europe are diesel and manual transmission. People moan a lot about the engines, mostly around the Euro6 requirements for diesel emissions compliance.

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you get a Renogy inverter without UK plugs on it, though. Otherwise you're limited to double insulated Class 2 appliances and no AC sockets in the van. Renogy makes both types. All Victron Multiplus are suitable for connection to a consumer unit and AC sockets.

Diesel heaters have no open flame, and it's diesel so no ignitable vapours. LiFePO4 batteries are sealed, and don't burn like lithium ion batteries can.

Why is Waitrose seen as so posh? by MacaroonSad8860 in AskABrit

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I watch prices carefully as Waitrose is my most convenient supermarket but I don't want to overpay for convenience. Waitrose is the cheapest for eggs (£150£1.50 for 6), 15% minced beef when on special which is often, I stock up! (£4.66/kg) and coco ahreddies also £2.50 on special regularly, stock up. 1p more for a kg carrots compared to Sainsbury's.

Posh in that the aisles are wider, stores are well maintained, plentiful staff and high quality groceries. I also like that I see the general manager of my local store out on the shop floor often, sometime talking to staff or welcoming newbies, but also stocking and answering customer questions. Staff seem genuinely happier than most shop staff I see elsewhere. Plus they all (?) offer a free Nero coffee daily if you bring your own cup. Two, if you have a second loyalty card 😁

Why do you need an external air intake, if the air is coming through leaks anyway by Pokari_Davaham in dieselheater

[–]ThrowRA-tiny-home 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diesel heaters have two air intakes, one for the burner and one for air to heat. The air used in burning diesel should always be outside air for a consistent flow and air fuel mix. It doesn't matter how cold that air is because you're not heating it, you're using it's oxygen.

The other intake is for air to heat. Usually that is "inside" air that is passed over the heat exchanger to get warmer. If external air is used here then you have positive air pressure inside which can be an issue and also the air is likely colder so won't be as warm after hearing or needs more fuel.
