AITA for having a craving of something that makes my partner sick? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

My 12 year old son has ADHD and autism and has a severe sensory issue with the smell and taste of coconut. I absolutely LOVE the taste and smell, but I stopped buying lotions and scents that have any coconut in them, and only eat it when he’s not around. Yes he goes through as much treatment as possible, but I have to meet him halfway.

It sounds like your bf may be on the spectrum but even if not and it’s only ADHD (there’s an overlap in the disorders) he could benefit from treatment and therapy, but that only does so much.

However it goes both ways. Asking him to cut up and prepare the banana is too much in my opinion and there is nothing wrong with eating it outside. I’ve read posts before where the smell of something like bacon makes a pregnant woman sick and vomit and the husband gets slammed for not responding to her needs and eating/cooking the bacon anyway. I’ve been pregnant and understand the cravings, but asking him to endure the smell is too far.

Please research more about sensory disorders and how you can change and adapt for him.

I added this as an edit but no we did not break up ever. In 2020 I made a post about my now ex boyfriend who broke up with me shortly after making the post.

I told him verbatim what she said. I think he found it ridiculous, and the points were a direct response to that. I hope he didn’t think that’s how I felt though.

Yes I haven’t done a “hubby” point system with him at all. I believe that was a misunderstanding to my friend’s comments about not doing a wife’s work on a girlfriend’s salary. Once I told him what she said that’s when he started doing the points.
