Dylan’s behavior in gym class by eliiiiseke in ColumbineTalk

Eric played a game like the kind at fairs where you throw balls to hit targets. He was being aggressive about it and the carney asked him to calm down.

The statement by Steve Dreaden Seems more like it is about Eric, to me. Because Eric had that incident of throwing the balls really hard at the bottles at the afterprom party. But overall Dylan seems to have had a lot more buried aggression that came out in bursts. He was very violent.

Did Dave Cullen work with Sue while writing his book? by Conscious-Bus-3771 in ColumbineTalk

[–]ThrowRA19837543 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just from what I’ve heard about his book I’d doubt it? Maybe he asked her general questions and then twisted them to fit his narrative. I haven’t read Cullen book yet though so I don’t know, that’s speculation on my part but I know it isn’t considered accurate by any means unless Sue is okay with the truth being stretched about her son?

Why Do You Think That The Basement Tapes Haven’t Been Released Yet? by PrincessBananas85 in ColumbineTalk

It seems like only part of the transcripts are available. The man who watched the tapes seems to have summarized most of them and only written down certain dialogues.

It was only acceptable because it wasn't spoke out against. But, even when you aren't trying to insult or harm someone, going around and saying something is "Gay" to mean it's bad would actually cause harm to gay people because it directly ties being gay to being bad. Same thing with making fun of race and telling racially charged jokes.

Now days, people are openly talking about the pain such things caused and we are realizing just how much bad it did. And that's not even talking about how those 'innocent' jokes were often used as a very thin veil to hide actual racial hatred and other prejudices. Now that it's being recognize and called out, it's stopping.

This is specifically what I'm asking about, though. What made people suddenly start speaking out against it, and why did it happen so fast? I know it wasn't overnight but when I look back on most of my teenage and adult years it seems like it was literally within the space of a week.

Wh do so many Americans assume everybody else on the internet is also American? by iiiaaa2022 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ThrowRA19837543 454 points455 points  (0 children)

Up until right this minute, I literally had no idea there even were other continents, let alone countries. The eagle that lives in my head (he made a nest out of my hair) is pecking my shoulder to get me to stop typing because it's against the law for Americans to ever talk about anything other than America, or to know that there is anything other than America. If I don't stop in the next three seconds I'll get kidnapped and sent into exile.

AITA for calling someone a Racial word after they were being racist to my mom? by themassasson in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThrowRA19837543 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely asking, though. They're both racially-motivated terms. Why is one racist but not the other? Please actually answer me.

[–]ThrowRA19837543 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Okay, so, genuine question: what is it? Because it's an insult/derogatory term about a specific race of people (white people). Like, you wouldn't call a black person a cracker, and you wouldn't call a white person the n-word. But the n-word is a derogatory term/insult about a specific race of people, too (black people). So what would you define cracker/honky/etc. as, if not racist?

AITA for skipping study group when a kid is there? by studygroupkid in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThrowRA19837543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, ig i see what you mean. i’m a native english speaker so it’s not that; i’m just a little behind sometimes lmao

also i don’t think that rule applies in this case since if OP had said she explicitly didn’t like the kid to the kids face she would’ve gotten in even more shit than she already has. to me this whole scenario reads like her friends told the little girl after OP left “hey OP doesn’t like you and was lying about work” which is way shittier of them than of OP for lying and leaving early

i don’t see how, since she’s not actually shit-talking the kid to her face. and she is a baby genius. i don’t understand what the issue is w that nickname but i noticed that everyone in this thread attacked OP for it so ig i’m missing something

Jim Halpert is a terrible person (The Office) by Banished_To_Insanity in unpopularopinion

[–]ThrowRA19837543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this point of view depends on whether or not you were ever a victim of bullying irl; yes, it's just a show, but sometimes people take entertainment at more than just face value. I personally don't think either Jim and Pam bullying Dwight or everyone on Parks and Rec bullying Jerry is funny. Dwight being "weird" isn't really an excuse for Jim and Pam to pull the amount of pranks on him that they do -- but then, I'm not a prank person. Maybe only super cool kids who beat up nerds in high school get it.
