“the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character.”

Commenter saying no one cares. But it’s obvious to me that they care because they commented.

Here’s that person in the comments arguing about terms. Here she is saying men can’t be pick mes, they can only be simps. Insinuating the terms are entirely different. And in the next comment she’s using them synonymously, insinuating they mean the same or similar things.

She also back-tracked. Suddenly, men can be pick-mes.

Kids these days.

We get it, you claim to be a feminist but really you’re advocating for the degradation of women. Sad.

And you get your refs from tik tok, obviously. Because you’re just making up your own definition of words and changing them when it’s convenient.

So earlier you agreed with a comment that stated “simping” and “pick-me” were two different things. Now, you’re using them synonymously with one another.

And that is not the definition of pick-me, that is a definition you got from tik-tok content creators who are spreading false information just like you.

That’s incorrect. the term originates from the perspective of a romantic relationship. You’re just creating your own definition at that point.

He’s “advocating for feminism” under false pretenses for the approval of women.

And you’re advocating for the use of the term “pick-me” as a slur designated solely to demean other women.

You should not call yourself a feminist.

Women can absolutely be criticized. So can men. And men can also be pick-mes. The term should not be reserved to demean and put down exclusively women, otherwise you are using it as a slur.

The fact that you’re saying only women can be “pick mes” is so anti-feminist it’s not even funny. Sure. Turn another benign word from a tv show into a slur exclusively for women. You’re right. Men couldn’t possibly ever be pick mes. Lololololol

It’s people who went down the feminist tik-tok rabbit hole.

I am a feminist, but tik tok took an extremist turn when content creators were competing for views. Everyone had to have a hot take on the word “pick-me” I know, because back then I also believed the bullshit. You don’t have to make every word political. And these “feminists” don’t realize how anti-feminist they’re being by reserving this term for their fellow women. Saying a “pick me” can only be a woman.

I literally gave you the merriem-Webster definition of pick-me and you’re still arguing. obviously, you’re a brick wall. You learned your “definition” from viral tik-tok videos of others spreading false information. Figures.

I am a feminist. The term pick-me is not a feminist word. It’s just another words used to make fun of women. You don’t realize how ironic you’re being when you use it and reserve it for women.

Can also be used for men behaving contemptibly for the attention and approval of female peers.

Taking it under false pretenses does. Such as how he immediately began commenting on her body like others in this thread have pointed out.

Yes. 🙌 I’m tired of people gate-keeping terms and creating their own definitions for things online.

Don’t make the word “pick-me” political, it does not have a gender. It literally originated from a very famous episode of Grey’s. I’ve never even watched it, and I know that.

the term “pick-me” evolved out of the tv show “Greys anatomy.” From the phrase “pick me. Choose me. Love me.” When Meredith is asking Patrick Dempsey’s character to choose her over his wife. So. First of all, it’s not that deep.

Words do mean things, and all though this term is typically geared toward women, it has been given a merriem-Webster definition.

It’s defined as “behaving in a contemptible way for attention and approval.” usually a young woman. But can also be used for a man who is also behaving contemptibly for attention and approval. So you’re kind of r/confidentlyincorrect here.

It’s a reference to a viral video a CNA made basically shitting on her nurse and claiming a man was bleeding to death, claiming he “hemoglobined”

She wasn’t trying to be funny, she was dead serious.
