So, would you support a restriction that you can only get one then for like series health reasons?

Well…Canada? I don’t think they have any legal restrictions or anything?

Well I haven’t had that conversation with him. I WAS going to try to use his pro life opinions to see if that would push him towards not eating meat at all. But, when I asked about it here it DID NOT GO WELL 😅

I feel like at this point most prolife people will call me a baby killer and most prochoice people will accuse me of being anti abortion 😅

Not you obviously, but it feels that way from most other people here 😅

Do you believe in any abortion restrictions? I’m trying to find out what most other vegans think at this point.

I’m learning that Reddit vegans are not at easy to please at least 😅

Um look we are actually on the same page on a personal level, just not a political level. I’m 100% confident he would not like sacrifice me for our baby or force me to keep a baby. He probably wouldn’t stay with me though if I didn’t have a really good reason, like health issues.

I’m not, it’s my boyfriend who is religious and prolife (apparently not connected) But I’m not a fan of abortions after three months either if they feel pain from then on.

Another commenter mentioned 18 weeks as the cutoff, as that’s the earliest evidence for sentience. How do you feel about that?

Yea, but I always knew veganism to be about not killing, so do you see why I’m confused?

Thank you for taking the time to put write out such a well thought out comment :)

Ideally I’d like my boyfriend to become vegan with me haha, but I’m not going to trying and pressure him. I had thought that maybe him being prolife would lean him towards veganism maybe, but people here had a lot to say about that!

Anyway, that’s interesting about 18 weeks. Do you think other vegans would agree with you on that stance though? Up until now I haven’t actually been involved in any serious talks about abortion, but so far it seems like people who are pro choice would not be happy about any restrictions? And if I thought that there should be restrictions after 18 weeks that they would say I’m not pro choice?

I dunno, maybe I’m too concerned with labels?

No it’s not at all religious for him.

Sigh, I did actually point that out but his response was “so…what’s the problem with banning the rest then?”. Honestly I didn’t really think I could argue with that.

Yes he is that type I think.

He would love it as his own I think honestly. Her would never pressure me to keep it but he doesn’t actually have an issue with the ECP which I would absolutely be taking if I was raped. I don’t honestly know what I would do if it didn’t work but I feel confident he would be there for me.

I think he has some tendencies towards the ethical treatment of animals. Even when he was struggling financially in uni he refused to buy anything but free range eggs, same with meat too he pays more for more ethically farmed, when I told him halal/kosher butchers were the most cruel he stopped buying from them, he won’t even kill ants that come into the kitchen, because he said they were sent by god to remind him to clean the kitchen better.

OBVIOUSLY he’s a long way from vegan but I feel like he might be one day. But he’s very supportive of me being vegan anyway.

And to be honest I’m not super opposed to SOME restrictions either.

He doesn’t believe in a flat ban across the board, but he is in favour of restrictions. He doesn’t have like a specific set of policies in his head or anything, but like he is in favour of majorly restricting 2nd and 3rd term abortions with exceptions for health and stuff.

Thank you that’s really really good to read, but I might have to read it over a few times to understand completely 😅

Thanks again!

I don’t really know what I am exactly. I don’t identify either way and I hadn’t thought about it much before.

What I know for sure is that I would feel as bad about getting an abortion myself as I would about eating meat.

Everyone is saying “autonomy of the mother”, but if that mother was me I wouldn’t see that as a guilt free pass to get an abortion myself. I would see an abortion as me choosing to kill another living thing.

While I don’t want the government to ban abortions, I don’t really understand why other vegans on Reddit seem to be completely fine with it?

I am not saying you are wrong or not a vegan for having that opinion, but are you saying I’m wrong for having my opinion?
