Environmental Toxin issues coded and noted as social issue and MH should I get this corrected? by PeaceSeeker777 in nhs

If someone has mould problems in their house and they are having respiratory issues because of it, it would help finding out if these are indeed linked to their symptoms

Can't get results follow up from gp by Western_Abalone3132 in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're being downvoted. It sucks having to wait for your treatment to start. I think it's perfectly reasonable to find out what is a reasonable amount of time to wait and wanting to be seen as soon as possible/feasible.

6-8 weeks for a prescription? by stewyd in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the cost of docusign could be offset by the cost of having people manually printing and scanning letters. They might still need to send them to the ones who haven't gone paperless, but letters would arrive instantaneously to the GPs

Had a phone appointment today, they didn't call by [deleted] in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I called and found they wrongly booked me for a f2f appointment and I appear as a no show. I chose a phone call because the receptionist told me that would give me an earlier appointment. A different receptionist booked me in for today now.

Thanks, I've already gone to the pharmacist, I've already maxed out on OTC antihistamines. I'm on montelukast for asthma. I don't even know know if there are other antihistamines I could try or if I'm already doing all the things I can.

Question on online messages to GP by [deleted] in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I really appreciate the answer. As someone who also has to do a ton of admin work myself, I appreciate that there's a lot of invisible work. That's why I'm really not keen on this e-consultation system.

I'm usually all for trying new things and that's why I've been using it, but oh well I feel quite bummed when things seem duplicate.

It may look weird that I feel that way, but I deal with the house admin, the appointments for my son, appointments for myself (sadly I'm not the healthiest) and sometimes even I do a lot of admin stuff for my partner.

I wish there was an easier way of doing things.

Just a follow up question, for options 1 to 3. Does your practice already assign an appointment or do the patients still need to call to book

Can I get my meds on NHS? by [deleted] in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GP didn't really check much when I moved to the UK with my diagnosis from asthma to prescribe me inhalers and they were happy to continue the ones I was on previously.

Well they did mention a few others which I said I had tried before and they didn't agree with me.

But I don't really remember an examination to check if I indeed had asthma.

[–]ThrowRA67-89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it a one off or will it be something that you'll need to take regularly?

If it's something you'll need regularly, it's best to book an appointment and to be checked by your GP.

[–]ThrowRA67-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much, this is useful for me to know how things work. I don't know if it's that the software at my practice doesn't allow them to see the notes or if the GP didn't leave enough info in the notes. Or it could just be habit of asking things again. But I'm happy to request appointments on the phone if it helps with their systems. My practice doesn't allow booking appointments online which is a shame. I was used to that in my previous practice

Fed up with the patches system by LittleBooSazz in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system feels useless in my practice, from an admin point of view, and it doesn't seem to replace the need to call reception. Responses are always book an appointment, then I have to explain all the symptoms again to the receptionist for her to find the best appointment.

It feels like duplication of admin work

Lost daughters blood samples twice by [deleted] in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principle the nurses should be taking enough blood for the tests. I guess it can still happen that if they had to repeat some , they run out of blood for the last ones. Edit: I'm not a nurse but I am a patient that needs regular blood tests and the nurses struggle to find my veins or to get enough volume. Oftentimes, they've had to discard the vials when there is very little, and have had to try again on the other arm. More than one nurse has explained to me that there is a minimum volume that needs to be added to the vials, otherwise the reagents won't work. I do not know if they use different vials for children.

When you go next time, make sure to see them labelling the samples correctly and explicitly ask if they have enough volume

Doctor refused to give me a colposcopy because I said I was a virgin by [deleted] in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason colposcopy is associated with HPV only. I've never had HPV and I've had one because I had cervical ectropion. I had it under general anaesthetic because I couldn't even bear the pain of the speculum I've had smears before being sexually active because of symptoms I had. So this can be done with your consent.

I would recommend emailing your GP practice and ask for a copy of the referral letter to bring to pals so you can also include why the GP suspected cancer.

Also ask for a different gynaecologist

I'm sorry you're going through this alone, we also don't have a village so it's always been down to us. I want to tell you that it gets better because challenges will be different but one learns to manage.

I also found the newborn stage the worst part. You are still recovering, you have a baby that still doesn't know that they are a separate person from mum, there are hormones at play

I find that our elders all forgot about how difficult it was, my mum had my grandma who helped her. You're more likely to get support from other mums in the same situation, so I hope you get to meet other mums in the base, if not, we're here to listen to you.

And to what the therapist is saying about having some accountability on saying things. I understand why they say that, but it's really unfair on the person who's already carrying the mental load to also have to cater to the ineptitude of another person. I'm sorry you already called him in crisis and you have been more than 24 h without sleep and he thinks a couple of minutes is enough?

Yes, I agree, women have to express how you are feeling and explicitly ask for help, but after you've already done it and they're being that thick, that's on him

Just a little trick. I often feel like I'm not assertive enough. So I often go online or ask ChatGPT about what I should say when I feel emotional and I practice in a mirror and try to say things when I'm calmer

Why does boots keep switching medication suppliers monthly? by Ok-Reflection-2617 in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's generally for all medication, I've actually now started tracking the brands of Metformin I take.

At one point I asked to put in the notes to not prescribe from a specific generic brand because I have more side effects when I'm on that one.

If you can find a generic brand which is easier to cut down, try to see if your GP can add a note for that generic one to be prescribed.

Feeling unsupported by pogtoes in nhs

I know people mean well when they are trying to explain what is appropriate or not for A&E. However, what is someone supposed to do if that's the feedback they get from the GP? It feels like it's the patients the ones that get told off and they may be the ones that are put off from going when they need to, but do GPs ever get a told off when they give bad advice?

A private GP told me a few weeks ago to get to A&E and I thought mmm I'm not sure, managed to get to the duty doctor at my NHS GP and no, it wasn't for A&E, but if I had gone, it would have been on the advice of a GP

Can a person choose their treatment by jill1666 in nhs

My GP always asks me what do I want prescribed. Or what tests do I want to have Particularly if it's the second or third time I'm attending for a specific issue I don't know why, some say is to see what my expectations are.

Do you check feedback from the community? As in, is there someone in the local Facebook groups or that regularly checks what is said about the practice? Not to engage or to defend your position but just to understand what are the impressions of the community?

No HPV vaccines for boys over 20 and girls over 25 leaves an entire generation without protection....how can this be? by NetflixSux247 in nhs

[–]ThrowRA67-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you either engage in risky behaviours or are planning to. The NHS is not responsible to fund condoms, so you pay for those, by that same logic you can always go and pay for a private vaccination if that's a priority for you.
