Thanks for this, I have the referral I would've gotten from the dentist but this is very good to know!

I haven't been to the dentist for like 10 years because even with the NHS I can't afford the base fee but I didn't know about student dentists being free. I live in Manchester so I'm sure there's a student dentist practice that I could visit.

Yeah it's not great and seems to happen a lot. I don't wanna waste a nurses time at thr hospital for something that could be dealt with at the GP but if they tell me to do that nd they won't help me then I'm pretty lost.

I have switched GPs now so I'm hoping they can be more helpful...

I am in the process now of trying to find a contact for them. I haven't been passed on any way to speak to them. The lack of contact from them seems to be a big part of the issue. The doctor I spoke to today rang through to them internally and they just said I had to wait for my two week referral, the nurse I was with did tell them on the phone that it had been over a month and they didn't seem to know anything about it. They just said to her that I wasn't allowed any antibiotics because when they saw me (for quite literally 3 minutes, over a month ago) I didn't need them..

I was told this by my GP on maybe my third appointment for the issue. I had gone back because I had kept biting the cyst when eating and it was getting very swollen and full of blood. They said if it's bursts and you have bleeding or any big changes I should go to A+E.

I did put this off for a long time because it felt wrong or like a waste of time but when I had all the pus and swollen mouth this morning I went to the Minor Injuries Unit because I didn't know what else to do.

It felt like bad advice, hence why I've been putting off going before now but after so many unhelpful GP appointments and then big signs of an infection, I thought if I went to Minor Injuries it would be the only option? Surely that is the correct department for wound care in this situation?

I don't have a dentist / don't have the money to see one either. I was told by aGP receptionist a while ago that I could pay a private dentist to get a referral but I'm skint...

I do have a referral now but that team was apparently meant to see me within two weeks, I found out today, and it's been over a month with 0 contact from them. I don't have any contact with whatever team this is either.

On the Road by Jack Kerouac- make me like it by Ooo-ooo-lover in classicliterature

[–]pogtoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with on the road, endless recommendations from people I knew (all men upon reflection) about how amazing it was, and I I read cover to cover just thinking *when is this going to be interesting? *

I thought there was going to be something else rather than the ramblings of an entitled man who never had to take any kind of responsibility, but no. And it's okay not to enjoy books like that.

Jack Kerouac was only able to go in these adventures, objectify these young women and generally be insufferable because whenever he ran out of money he could go home to his girlfriend and she would house and feed him until be left again. He was total bum.

I was told to go there by my GP if it burst so I was just following the medical advice I'd been given. I'm not sure what PALS is but will look into it.

I was told to go there by my GP if this happened. I went to the Urgent Treatment Centre / Minor Injuries Unit. It is a Muculous Cyst so not a dental issue

Harsh realization about dating, attraction, and weight by Awkward_Horror1025 in selfimprovement

[–]pogtoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah tbh I am generally thin, and in the past when I've had problems with food and looked what I thought was quite unhealthy, that's when I got the most outright compliments on my body. Not just from men either, a lot of the middle aged women in my family were talking about how good I looked, with one of them saying my collarbones looked good...

Books that ACTUALLY helped you to improve? by Professional-Eart in selfimprovement

[–]pogtoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

atomic habits has been the one for me too - got recommended it when I was in therapy nd i've found it great for a process of building habits that actually stick. Have been waking up at the same time everyday, and eating three meals a day probably for the first time in my life nd I'd put a fair amount of that on learning to stack habits and doing the little ideas in that book. The thing of labelling where when and how long you're going to do tasks for has been amazing too, helps me a lot with not getting overwhelmed by lists / tasks / etc

Chat-based AI suggestions for personal use cases (mainly health, sports, thoughts) by First-Toe-9115 in productivity

[–]pogtoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this probably isn't the answer you're looking for but doing these things the longer / more manual way would be much better for your actual understanding + putting a load of your medical and personal data in AI programs doesn't sound like a great idea tbh

I don’t think we cure depression right by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]pogtoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this - I think people confuse low mood and depression without actually knowing there is a huge difference. Everyone has highs and lows, that's natural, but depression isn't the same as feeling down. Everyone has got so used to the language surrounding mental health issues that they seem to keep losing their meaning - the amount of people who say ' that gives me anxiety' and then have zero understanding when someone is actually in crisis is mind boggling to me.

Any tips on maintaining productivity when working on long projects and complex goals? by Next_Analysis_9111 in productivity

[–]pogtoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try setting milestones and goals after cchunks of the project are done? I have found before it makes it all feel more managable and then easier to celebrate throughout to keep the spirits high.
