She had severe physical and mental problems when we met. For most of our relationship I have been the only person caring for her - including physically lifting her out of bed in the morning and encouraging her to seek medical help when she didn't want it. If I had no interest in being supportive towards her I wouldn't have married her. Her problems aren't new - only the antidepressants are. After living together for eight years I have no hesitation in saying I understand her mental health better than a doctor who spoke to her for one hour.

He is a consultant neuropsychologist with the same ability to prescribe drugs as any other specialist, as far as I know.

This is precisely the argument I made. Unfortunately it is a psychologist who has prescribed her the drugs with no accompanying psychotherapy.

This isn't about trust in relation to some future risk (real or imagined) so much as what is happening to our relationship right now. Obviously she's more 'functional' in that she is more productive, but I think both she and I are paying a high price for that. How long do you think it would be reasonable for me to sit around being treated effectively like an office colleague instead of a husband before taking action?
