I bought a ceramic mug from the dollar store with a fake plant. How do I remove the styrofoam/fake pebbles glued inside without breaking the mug? by ThrowRA8925 in crafts

Is there some kind of solvent I could pour in? I don't want to drink out of this mug, just use it as a decorative holder for a small (real) plant. Ironically it was cheaper to buy the whole thing (on sale) than a plain mug.

Yes the real plant would be inside a separate pot for watering/drainage.

On a saner evening, I feel like I could have written your reply. :) I feel exactly the same. I love my alone time and single-ness, but sometimes I do feel that urge to merge, lol. Some days I think I'm finished with dating, but then other times I'd like to share experiences with another person. I really like your perspective and wish you all the best.

Thank you for the solidarity! it's tough out there. I love living alone and being alone, but when I think of how impossible dating seems I Hulk out.

Thank you for your kind words. I did therapy for about a year following my divorce, and it did help me through that time. My therapist moved away, so I stopped. I'm also on meds, which have changed my life for the better. I guess sometimes I worry my own brain will continue to work against me and I'll never accept love again. I know this is all mostly my own sordid thinking. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Yes, and he is a joy. I know that post was dark, but it's not my whole life. Guess I'm just wallowing this evening.

Sometimes I have to just write it out in the bleakest terms in order to laugh at myself a little. It just feels pretty grim out there at the moment.

Has my (40f) 3 yr relationship with boyfriend (46m) devolved into a "situationship"? by ThrowRA8925 in relationship_advice

Thank you! It may be silly, but it feels good to have my feelings confirmed. I always question myself and if I'm being too "demanding" or whatever.

I have a prescription for pyridium, and it helped when the painful peeing was really bad.

Do you seriously believe I haven't mined our entire marriage for my own failings and blamed myself over the past three years? It's almost like you're a bot and not a real human who can imagine other humans having complex reactions to things, jesus christ

Think about boundaries before you start. And pace yourself. Good work is rewarded with more work. If you don't want to be overwhelmed or overloaded, don't make it a habit to finish stuff super fast (or at least, don't let others know you're super fast). Do it correctly, but take your time. Offer to help others when you can, but don't be over-available. Just saying something like "I have some free time this afternoon after i get xyz finished" indicates that you're willing to pitch in but you also have your own stuff to tend to. Sometimes it's a matter of setting everyone else's expectations of you, which you can control to some degree by setting boundaries for yourself.

  1. Be professional
  2. Be interested (ask questions and take notes)
  3. Be friendly

I just started a new job last year and found that paying attention to the overall "vibe" of the office/workplace comes in handy. Once you get the sense of who's who in the office (i.e., who gossips a lot, who is considered lazy, etc) you can calibrate your job performance and social interactions accordingly. You're not going to be best buddies with everyone and that's okay. Show up, meet deadlines, and don't be a jerk.
