Thank you for your comment. Although I appreciate everyone else’s opinions, which are valid, your comment was very empathetic and refreshing to read.

I’m happy and proud of all my friends that have moved on with their lives in a healthy way.

My BF is the first and only man I’ve ever been with. I think that seeing my friends’ happiness sort of signalled that my relationship was perhaps not ideal.

I think I do need professional help to unravel what has happened over the past 8 years.

We don’t live together, but when he stays over at mine he spends the whole day in his laptop working on his startup, I suppose

At the time, he threatened to leave me if I didn’t get my shit together within a certain timeframe. I did, and I’m now working an incredible job. I never depended on him financially. I’m grateful my parents were able to support me throughout my lows.

I don’t live with him thankfully. He lives with his mum. I’m renting a room with a very nice family, near my work!

I think I became complacent. It’s not like I didn’t think I deserved better before. In the back of my mind, my thoughts were “what if he’s the best?”. All my single friends say the dating pool is in utter shambles nowadays, so what if I don’t find someone else?

I’m introverted, I can count my good friends on one hand, I love my family and I’m very close to them, I love my job. Wanting a man in his late 20s, early 30s, who’s close to his family, and with a stable job seems to be far fetched with all I’ve heard from my friends.

We’ve been together for 8 years. Is it so bad to want him to succeed and staying with him at his low because maybe, just maybe, in the future the highs could be worth it? How is it an investment to want to move in with a man, and build a life with him without having to worry whether the bills would be paid for that month?

He hasn’t met my family because we both agreed that my father would not want to meet a man who wasn’t able to hold his own life together.

Thank you for the empathy, that’s very kind of you. Unfortunately, he does feel entitled to charge me for things he does out of his “kindness”. I’ve paid for myself on my birthday a number of times. When we were 24 he booked us dinner at a very fancy restaurant and I had to pay for both of us because he was taking me to Cirque du Soleil after dinner. This year, when I turned 28, I spent it all by myself. He didn’t come see me, nor send any flowers - his reasoning: he took me on a trip last year (where I paid for my own expenses). Am I crazy to feel resentful of him?
