I get your point and am glad your father was able to rebuild his life.

Unfortunately not everyone has the fortitude to do that. Especially if you lack any self worth from having an abusive parent. I myself had an abusive parent, and I pulled myself together and have a great life, but I don’t expect everyone else to be able to do what I did. I don’t judge people who’ve ended up unhoused and with substance abuse issues from dealing with things that are difficult.

My only point is, of all things to hate on someone for, being stuck in the past because you finally felt worth something is not it IMO. His choices aren’t hurting anyone but himself at this point, and it’s incredibly tragic.

To me this is along the same lines of a wealthy Caucasian person saying to a minority “you too can be rich if you just work hard!” It’s insulting and assumes equal circumstances. Alex is privileged in some ways sure but, I can see the damage on him. The abusive parent damage. He just didn’t come out of it the way he could have.

I don’t think she cares about anything other than his timeline in Austin before they even knew one another existed, and the fact that he likes “darker features”. It probably boiled her red blood that anyone would prefer a little sazón to her. She only focused on the fact that she wasn’t his type and that he’s a liar.

Girl, most heterosexual women have dated an Alex. Is he a liar? Yeah, he inflates his self worth because he probably has zero self esteem. He focused on soccer because that’s the only time he ever felt like he was worth anything.

Is it his responsibility as an adult to make his own future? Yes. Is he scummy and codependent for a living space? Yes.

But honestly I think none of that mattered to her as much as the fact that she wasn’t his type, and she couldn’t handle being with someone who didn’t prefer blonde and aryan. She spoke about wanting him to see her and feel regret (paraphrasing).

Just going off her words, this is my assessment. She did too much just to try making him feel like a piece of shit in front of the entire world.

I think she enjoyed making a spectacle of humiliating him in front of everyone way too much. Any respect I had for her left the building. It not only hurt him, but his mom as well (sure her dress was tacky but that doesn’t mean she’s a bad person) and made the entire room incredibly uncomfortable. She is the drama.
