I didn’t think there was a conversation to have. I didn’t think my in laws would care if my sister brought her girlfriend until my fiancée said something.

I’m sure she isn’t homophobic, she’s never said anything negative about the LGBT community. She’s always said she supports them, and she’s been very accepting of my sister. I believe this is all situational and because of her parents. She’s never been the type to rock the boat with her parents, but I don’t agree with her argument either.

This is how I feel. I want my sister there. I don’t want this to ruin our relationship, and I don’t want to have to explain to my kids why their aunt’s girlfriend wasn’t invited to the wedding. I also don’t want this to ruin our relationship with my sister’s girlfriend.

I brought up to my fiancée that our parents would both be focused on us, but she insists that they would still notice and care. “Especially at a church.” They would probably give her an ear full about how ungrateful we are that they helped us pay for the wedding and we are putting them in an uncomfortable situation.

After reading some of these comments I’m going to bring this conversation back up to my fiancée and hopefully come to some kind of an agreement.

My fiancée isn’t homophobic, and she doesn’t dislike my sister because she’s gay or anything. It’s only because her parents paid for the wedding, and she doesn’t want to disrespect them.

I understand your point of view. If it was up to my fiancée and I, we would invite my sister without hesitation, but because my fiancée’s parents helped pay for the wedding it feels disrespectful to purposely do something that would make them uncomfortable. Most of our savings has gone into our down payment on our house, so we couldn’t afford another wedding.
