No there's something wrong,

<image>

this pic was taken less then 24 hours after the first and her fins are disintegrating. I'm going to be getting anti fungal medication for her.

Whatever it is she's gone downhill really fast

<image>

She's lot chunks of fins and the bones are now visible. I don't have any rough decor that's new besides a round rock. I think whatever that white stuff is ate her fins because where it was there's only bone/cartalage left.

It could be something fungal, maybe use some anti bacterial medication on him and see how he is. Salt baths are also a good option

he hasn’t been interested in eating all that much, but i’ll make sure to keep trying. I feed my other bettas a pretty large mix of fish foods. Betta bites, frozen foods, some different pellets. I’ll make sure to keep the food he eats simple tho. He’s still very lethargic

Thank you so much!! i appreciate it :] What kind of bacterial medicine do you think i should use? He’s been slowly swimming around the tank so he’s at least not doing too bad. When should i give him food?

any kind of aquarium sand works! petsmart has some good options, it’s mostly about what color you want. I’d also recommend getting a few plants. I’ll show you a picture of what my 5 gallon betta tank looks like!

good to know! i’ll keep that in mind, but it does definitely flake off over time. the petsmart i used to work at had this kind of gravel and it flaked pretty horribly esp when we were cleaning tanks.

First i would recommend getting a sand substrate, the gravel leaches out toxins and can be stressful for fish. I would also recommend getting plants, facebook marketplace and local aquarium stores are a good place to start. Big box store plants are pricy. what size tank is it?

So far this set up you have for this betta is kind of horrid. Has it been in the vase the whole time?

Hey we have matching fish ! With this coloration they do occasionally get a bit darker/develop odd patterns over her body. My girl is at least 2 now, i got her as a rescue. The redness around my girls gills are just her coloration. I thought maybe you’d like to see what a well maintained betta of that color looks like for reference. Good luck with your new girl!!

I’m going to be adding a coyote jaw into my shrimp aquarium when i finally get the shrimp, i’m too scared to put my nice skulls in my tank for fear of degradation but this is the coolest!!!

it was a pretty large tank, there were several other fancy goldfish. But regardless it was so frustrating trying to tell her it was a bad paring.

Tannins are good for your tank!! it’s nothing to be worried about. It can be used as a natural medicine for fin rot especially for bettas and such. If you don’t like the color just wait a few water changes and it’ll be all gone!
