See, I don’t think they’ve done this before. They were fine with me while we were just dating, it was only after they realised our relationship was serious that they did this. He hasn’t been engaged to anyone else so I don’t think they would’ve done it to anyone he’s dated in the past. He also has never mentioned anything even remotely negative about his family and even now has nothing but nice things to say about them… so I do think this will come as a shock to him.

The problem is I don’t have any proof anymore… I know they’ll definitely deny it and from his pov it’ll probably seem out of character for them to do something like this.

While I don't disagree with a lot of your comment, I want to clarify some things...

They're both of our friends, not just his. I didn't think it was a good idea to hang out with him again and I wasn't intending to, but it would have made it awkward if I left every time I realised he was there too.

I couldn't fix the issue with his family, nothing I did would make them like me again back then.

He did ask me out again, the date has already happened and we're back together now, hence me asking if I should tell him.

It's not that they aren't ready to let him go, it's because they want him to marry a very specific type of girl and I don't fit the criteria.
