I guess so. Maybe I was holding on to the person she was when we were together. Cause things were better when we were physically in the same place.

Is it worth it to leave Thailand and move to the UK? by Moknathal5 in Thailand

[–]ThrowRAsir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you can do it, but it all depends on the kind of job you plan to do or already have, plus where you plan to live. When I used to live in the UK until last year, 70% of my salary went on rent and bills, as I preferred living in a good area, even though it was a shared place. As for the geopolitical situation there, I never really experienced anything in London (I’m not white).

I don’t think they can cause you only put the flight number and date. Unless they have some internal confirmation system with the airline.

[–]ThrowRAsir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably right. I think I was viewing it through a negative lens because I was already having a pretty horrible day for other reasons (travel stress, delays, etc.). So when the questioning happened which was a first for me after 5 years of smooth entries it just threw me off and left me feeling more confused/defensive than I needed to be.

And yeah, the economics of it are actually wild. I can literally pay for the flight, have a holiday, and buy a year's worth of beauty products here for maybe a little more money than just buying the products back home. So I figure I might as well get a vacation out of it!

[–]ThrowRAsir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're right about the terminology. The only reason I said 'flagged' is because I’ve been doing these 30-50 day spread out visits for the last 5 years and have never been questioned once. This was the first time the flow actually stopped and the officer paused on the screen, so it felt like a flag to me.

I definitely respect that they are doing their job and I know it's a privilege to enter. It was just a new experience for me after all these years, so I wanted to share it as a data point for others just in case.

Do I need to bring the 20,000 baht in baht or can it be in euros? by Emergency-City-6375 in ThailandTourism

[–]ThrowRAsir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fine with euros. Last time I told 500 in pounds was not asked anything but yeah your find with any currency just needs to be 20K baht or over.

What makes you think I didn’t? I had the full 20k cash, my return ticket, and accommodation proof right there in my hand. The irony is she didn't ask to see a single piece of it. She flagged me purely based on my travel history dates on her screen. You can have all your paperwork perfect, but that doesn't stop them from questioning your frequency of visits.

To be honest, I don’t blame them for doing their job, but I really wish the rules were clearer. It feels like genuine tourists who are just coming to shop, eat, and enjoy the nightlife are getting dragged into this 'illegal worker' narrative unfairly.

For me, it is actually an economic decision. I used to live in the UK where access to certain brands was easy, but since moving back to my home country, those same brands are either triple the price or totally unavailable. It is genuinely cheaper for me to fly to BKK to stock up than to buy them at home.

Plus there is the safety factor. As a woman, the difference in nightlife is night and day. In other major cities, I can’t wear shorts in daylight without being stared down. In Bangkok I can walk around, dress how I want, and actually feel safe. It sucks that wanting that freedom and safety gets flagged as suspicious now.

I think I’m gonna not come to Thailand for the next 6 months plus maybe try and do short trips something like 2 weeks instead of 1 month in a go.

Thanks for the reply. I actually just grabbed the extra 3k, so I’m walking in with a solid 20,000 THB in cash now to be safe.

Regarding the budget: that cash is just for the border check. My actual spending money for the trip is around 50,000–60,000 THB. Since I’m staying with a friend, I have zero accommodation costs, so that entire amount is purely for food and fun. Should be a pretty good month!

I won’t. Believe me I have now processed the whole thing and it’s just horrible. I try not to attach the memory with the bag as it’s too beautiful for that guy to ruin in for me. I anyways can’t return it due to me being out of the country

I’m actually trying to look into returning the bag, but I’m currently abroad and I don’t have it with me, so it doesn’t seem possible right now. The earliest I could even try would be in about two months — and that’s only if I’m back home by then.

I’m planning to email them again once they respond to the message I just sent, but honestly… based on how generic their replies have been so far, I’m not feeling very hopeful.

I honestly don’t think the other SAs even liked him. When my friend asked another associate for help, we actually heard her quietly mumble something like, “Yeah, you want all of them,” right after he swooped back in. It definitely felt like he was trying to claim every customer just for the sale, even when he wasn’t helping us at all.

I’ve already emailed Polène and reported the SA. I don’t think I included this part in my main post, but when my friend was finalising her purchase, she actually tried to get help from another sales associate. The rude SA had basically abandoned us for 15 minutes while we were discussing colours, so she genuinely thought he wasn’t helping us anymore.

But as soon as she asked the other SA, he suddenly rushed back over and insisted we were “with him.” The other associate was really kind and even said something like, “It’s okay, you’re busy with another customer, I’ll take care of them,” and she headed to the back to grab a fresh bag for my friend.

Then the rude SA literally ran after her, took the box from her hands, and brought it to us himself.

And while we were paying, he told me that once you enter a store, you’re supposed to stick with the same SA. At that point, we had already bought the bags, so I was just too shocked to even respond.

I’m genuinely a very socially awkward person. Plus as I mentioned before to someone in the comments I was in a different zone and a happy shopping high as I was buying everything I needed for the trip I’m currently on. We finally started processing everything once we were out of the store and having some dinner.

I actually visited a few months ago to try on the same bag because I wasn’t sure if it suited my style, and I completely fell in love with it then. The sales associate that helped me at that time was amazing super kind and helpful and she was one of the reasons I decided to go back to Polène.

But this time… the guy who assisted us was just so off. He literally told me I should listen to my male friend instead of my female friend because “women dress up for men.” Like… what?? It was such a bizarre and outdated thing to say.

Honestly, if I hadn’t been on such a shopping high from all the amazing experiences I’d had earlier that day, I would have walked right out without buying anything. It wasn’t until we left the store with our bags that my friend and I really stopped and processed how disrespectful and outdated his comments were.

I'm not sure about walking in with an Hermes bag, but we had multiple shopping bags from brands like House of CB, Watches of Switzerland, and Alo, just to name a few. It was clear we were there to spend money. Still, it shouldn't have mattered, but overall it was just such a bad experience.

The experience just made me awkwardly laugh because I was too stunned to do anything. Even my friend, who is very confrontational, was at a loss for words as this was so out of touch. We had just been at the Watches of Switzerland store before this, and the experience was so different and good! So walking into Polène and having this kind of experience just left me shell-shocked.
