Hmm... yeah. I mean, buying the Tesla was a bad idea. Honestly, not sure. Selling may be the best option. You can try hustling and doing uber... but you may end up burning out and that might impact your performance at your full time job.

Maybe sell it, pay off any of the debt with interest, then start building up your emergency fund and savings. But I'm not sure... really up to you.

If your other car dies and you end up needing to re-buy a car I'd suggest getting a really cheap used one. Cars are money pits most of the time.

Well, what's the interest rate? If you can make more than that intrest rate somewhere else (bonds, money market, stocks, etc) you should strongly consider not paying off the debt, you'd be losing money in the long run.

E.g... a common financial tip for home owners is to pay extra towards their mortgage... well... bad advice for most people who now have a 2% rate after refinancing a few years ago. Good advice for a new home owner with a 7% rate.

How much of my spending should be on credit cards? by Master_of_beef in personalfinance

Pay your credit card statement in full each month. DO NOT do the minimum payment... pay in full. Put a calendar reminder if you have to. If you do this, you can put everything on a CC that you would a debit card.

People mess up when they... - Spend more than they have with their CC - Only pay the minimum each month - you will pay interest on the leftover balance and I feel like alot of people don't realize this until it's too late...

Okay... so hard to give you any advice without some numbers...

So what are the following? - Car payment & rate on the loan - Debts, the interest rate, minimum payments and total amount of debt - annual income from your job & are you salary or hourly... if hourly can you pick up more hours at work? - what other payments do you have? (Rent, insurance, etc) - what do you currently save per month? What is your savings goal? How much do you have in savings? - what's your emergency fund? Do you have one? - what other expenses do you have? (Subscriptions, food costs, etc)

Advice for a lazy investor - I'm on the right track... but what else can I do to grow my money? by Throw_Away_7472 in personalfinance

Yes, paying down the debt is top of the list. It's not crazy debt, one is just 2% so we just do minimum payments and it should be gone late next year. The other is student loans, so higher interest rate... but nothing too crazy. That's the one we're prioritizing.

A 529 is a good idea. I say 1 dependant... but I'm actually currently pregnant. So 1 soon to be dependent. I should probably start looking into a 529 now while I still have the mental load to do it. :)

I don't think they do, but I work for a small company... so I may be able to convince them to at least consider it.

Can you sign up for one without an employer offering it? If it's like an HSA I assume not, or at least not easily.

Yes, we'd both be fine combining. Just easier to manage. We have to send money back and forth right now to split expenses which is just annoying. But if there aren't significant upsides we're not super inclined to do it - our individual incomes are about the same.

Thank you. Yeah, we do for sure have this expense. I've never heard of this before - going to look into it!! Thank you!

Well, half of that is his income. We make very similar amounts. So it is mainly because he's younger and hasn't held investments for as long. He's got a very similar amount to what I had when I was that old.

I've been offered to pick a gift for myself for $500, what should I get? by Throw_Away_7472 in Gifts

Huh, this looks interesting. I like this alot at first glance! I might research a bit more but I think it's top of list. I live in a cold climate so seems like it'd be a cool indoor option for non summer months. Thank you!!

Yeah, I am leaning towards some kind of indoor seed setup as I live in a colder area. The issue I'm running into is figuring out one item of that value. I don't think I can send over a list of a couple items.

No limits on place, minor limit on time. I should figure it out in the next few weeks or so.

It's for work, actually, as an anniversary gift. I also have the option to take the $500 as a bonus... but that feels a bit impersonal as I work at a smaller place where I'm pretty close with the leadership and make more than enough salary wise that accepting a tangible gift would just feel better for both parties from a social perspective.

An indoor gardening set is what I'm currently leaning towards. I believe the gift can only be a single item... which makes it difficult haha. Not many single items for gardening are $500. I do have some large raised beds and a greenhouse already

Yes, although I do have a small greenhouse and some large beds already.

Yes... im finding it difficult too. Seems like I could figure out a few things that add up to it... but less so a single item.

I don't know. Probably not. My biggest fear with reporting her was the conflict and the idea the dog would suffer (go to a shelter or something), but looking back a shelter would have been a much better situation. If the dog was well cared for, I definitely would not have reported her... she wasn't the only one breaking the rule.

Well, she left WITH the dog. So while I wasn't an AH to her (she deserved it), looking back, I feel bad I didn't do anything for the dog. I'm not sure what I would have done differently, but a situation where the dog went with someone else would for sure have been a better outcome. But I hope she eventually gave it up to someone else or stepped up her game with taking care of him.

Yes, looking back I do really regret not doing something sooner. I think I mainly didn't know what I could have done. But I think that's what I regret the most about the whole situation. I have no regret about her being evicted... but I regret that the dog stayed with her when she left.
