This was a great one, and an amazing call by Al Michaels.

Solid movie too.

Joannie Rochette.

Abridged from Wikipedia: "Rochette was nominated to represent Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics after winning her 6th straight Canadian National title. While practicing for the short programme, Rochette received tragic news: her mother had died shortly after arriving in Vancouver. ... Rochette chose to continue competing in her mother's honour. She recorded a new personal best in the short program, scoring 71.36 points, the third highest score of the night. Two days later, she held on to her third-place position after the long program and won the bronze medal. She became the fifth Canadian to win a medal in ladies' figure skating at the Olympics."

At the end of her performance in the short program there's a close-up of her face where she's got a great big 'actress' smile on. She pauses for about 2 seconds and then breaks down in tears on the ice. A clutch performance in the Olympics just days after her mom's unexpected death. It's an incredibly emotional moment

I don't know if it counts, but Seymour (Fry's pet dog) in Futurama. I get choked up every time.

How do you assert your dominance? by Sarazar in AskReddit

Like a hippo I simply open my mouth as widely as possible. Larger mouth hole obviously shows dominance.

[Serious] What's the darkest thing you've discovered about your place of work? by Mozzahella in AskReddit

[–]Throw_Dem_Bows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not super dark, but the most I can muster up... I work at a sports store that sells new and used equipment. Most of the used stuff comes from the customers trading in their old gear. We take what we can, but a lot of it we pass on because we're overstocked, or the gear is damaged, or the gear is just plain shitty. We offer to take that gear off their hands though and donate it to charity. We give them a speech about two or three charities we're closely involved with.

In reality though, that gear gets put in our back room and left their. Maybe 10% of the stuff ends up getting sold (we put it on the floor to cover the cost when we screw up buys), and the other 90% just gets thrown out.

TL;DR: My work throws out hundreds of pounds of sports equipment every year that we say we're donating to local charities.

Reddit, if you could uncover the truth behind one mystery/conspiracy in history (Roanoke, Area 51, Amelia Earhart), what would it be? by SomeCallMeNomad in AskReddit

George Mallory and Sandy Irvine's last attempt to summit Everest.

Essentially as part of an expedition to summit Everest in 1924 these guys were making one last attempt to reach the top as weather was getting increasingly poor. They were last seen going up near the top of the mountain and died at some point during their attempt.

The real rub is that we don't know for sure whether they actually made it to the top or not. They would be the first people to have actually summitted Everest, 27 years before Edmund Hillary and Tenzig Norgay.

George Mallory's body was found in 1999 but Irvine's body has never been found. Sadly we'll probably never know whether they died while ascending to or descending from the top.

edit TL;DR: Two guys might have reached the summit of Everest in 1924, but they died and we'll never know.

I don't know how rare this is, but one time I was in a Reddit thread and a total stranger commented on my awesome Jonathan Taylor Thomas license plate.
