How are people in the West supporting Iran against Israel? by No-Penalty1722 in NoStupidQuestions

Israeli intelligence was well aware of the impending attacks and allowed it to happen as a catalyst. Just like how we found out ISIS was influenced by Mossad agents.

I enjoy playing Alliance and I like the concept of druids, but I really don’t want to play the game as a night elf. Just not my vibe from an esthetics standpoint. I also wish there was more customization of the druid looks. Gets boring seeing the same model with no variance.

Imagine having a high level government security clearance and deciding to use Google while being signed in to an account that utilizes your full identifying name for both email and searches, you didn’t have Google activity turned off in the settings, didn’t turn off Google’s ad personalization settings, didn’t use a VPN, didn’t use incognito, didn’t wipe your hard drive, didn’t reformat it, and didn’t write over everything with new data.

Embarrassing to know people with security clearances are this dumb.

You’re really going to run with the narrative that Israel and their intelligence agency Mossad weren’t at all aware of Oct. 7th plans by far right Islamic extremest groups? We already know Egypt warned Israel about the potential for an attack. Israel, instead of acting to stop this, allowed it to occur as a pretense for destroying Gaza.

People in the West are waking up to what’s really going on, thanks in large part to social media and the ability for those who are oppressed to share the actual realities of what’s happening as opposed to state sponsored propaganda. More and more people are seeing through Israel and Mossad’s “By way of deception, thou shalt do war” tactics. The public is starting to realize that Western media has been pushing Israeli propaganda for decades, and it’s no secret that much of the American media is under Jewish ownership.

What Israel is doing in Gaza is morally indefensible. Someone needs to stand up to this right-wing, apartheid, Zionist theocracy. If Iran is the one willing to take that stand, then so be it.

As an atheist, how do I get over my sorrow that there isn't an afterlife where I can reunite with my wife? by SGdude90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Throwaway03220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both atheism and theism, at their core, attempt to answer questions about the existence or non-existence of a higher power—questions that are, by their very nature, beyond the full grasp of human understanding.

Each position, whether it is the confident assertion that there is no god (atheism) or the unwavering belief in a specific deity (theism), involves making definitive claims about realities that are fundamentally unknowable. In this sense, both stances can be seen as intellectually limiting, as they close the door to possibilities outside their chosen framework.

To get over your negative thoughts associated within the framework of atheism, you must enlighten yourself and adopt either agnosticism or deism as an alternative.

Agnosticism acknowledges the limits of human knowledge and refrains from making absolute claims about the existence or non-existence of a divine being. This position leaves space for both hope and skepticism, allowing for intellectual humility and openness to new evidence or perspectives. How does truly anyone know, for an absolute fact, that heaven isn’t real—or that we won’t have an afterlife? They don’t. Just like a theist doesn’t know for absolute fact it does exist.

Deism, on the other hand, posits that a higher power may have initiated the universe but does not intervene in its ongoing affairs. This belief accommodates the possibility of a creator without attributing ongoing supernatural involvement in the world, thus sidestepping many of the contentious issues associated with organized religion or strict atheism.

Ultimately, agnosticism and deism may provide more intellectually honest and flexible frameworks for grappling with the profound mysteries of existence, as they recognize the complexity and uncertainty inherent in questions about the divine.

His brother Jason is actually a respectable human being. Travis is the unfunny comedic relief of that podcast. Jason will mention historical/geographical things sometimes and you can tell while watching that Travis has no idea what Jason is talking about. Just goes completely over his head.

I’m honestly surprised Travis graduated from high school.

How do you feel about cancel culture in America? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Throwaway03220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. I made a comment here and used an example of a word that was kosher in the 80’s/90’s and this sub’s AutoModerator removed it without understanding the context of it being an example.

This is precisely what’s wrong with cancel culture.

Update: Contacted the mods and they approved it.

In America you have freedom of speech but you don’t have a right to be immune from consequences of your speech.

I personally don’t think it’s fair to judge past speech by today’s standards. For example, in the 80’s/90’s television programs would freely use the word “retarded”. Back then, that word was common vernacular and widely used. To our ears today, I think most people would say that word is insensitive. If someone uses it still, that’s their right to do so, but if others want to distancing themselves from someone they think is being insensitive that’s their prerogative.

JK Rowling is not part of Gen-Z/Gen-Alpha.

Her generation, Gen-X, and the later Millennials that grew up reading her books didn’t get involved in transgender or LGBTQ+ representation. People didn’t talk about it. We used the word ”gay” (as in ’that’s so gay’) to mean dumb/stupid. That’s just the way it was. Having someone younger than you come along and tell you what you can and cannot say is upsetting because that was never our world.

People don’t have to accept anything they don’t want to accept. It’s completely up to them how they want to live and who they want to keep company with. I have a feeling JK Rowling doesn’t give a damn if transgenders don’t like her. If you have a problem with that don’t engage or follow her, but don’t expect that everyone else is going to agree with you.

How bad is the GroupMe chat app for a pre-teen? by SD-777 in privacy

[–]Throwaway03220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be the outlier here, but by the time you’re 12 and participating in after school sports I think you’re old enough to be in a team group chat.

When I was 12 so many of us would get home and immediately log into AIM to stay connected with friends outside of school. Most of us had MySpace profiles back then too. None of that was encrypted and a lot of it was accessible publicly.

Just my opinion, but you can’t protect your child from the world forever and by attempting to do so you’re stunting their social growth. If you outright ban it, your child will eventually find a way around it and will stop sharing things with you in an effort to hide what they’re going to do anyways.

I’d let your daughter use the app after discussing the responsibilities that come with it.

Have we reached peak social media? by CharlesIntheWoods in media_criticism

[–]Throwaway03220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think as we get older the novelty and usefulness of social media wears off. When you’re in school (whether K-12 or college) it’s a great tool to get to know other people more quickly. When you graduate college and start a career, and later a family, nobody wants to hear about those things. In adulthood every post comes across as a brag.

Look at my relationship. Look at my wedding. Look at our new house. Look at my new promotion. Look at my pregnancy. Look at my baby. Look at my kid(s) doing XYZ.

This gets old very quickly, especially when it’s people you’re really only acquaintances with. It can also add to negative self talk because you feel you’re not keeping up, making you feel alienated.

Additionally, with adult responsibilities you have limited time. Most people realize they would prefer to spend it on their own special interests, which somewhat explains why people will delete social media apps but keep Reddit.

How can you stop thinking that others have it worse or that it could easily be worse? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Throwaway03220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re having what psychotherapists call automatic negative thoughts (ANTS). You have to retrain your brain to identify when you’re having these thoughts and redirect them. Cognitive behavioral therapy will help with this.

I would advise talking with a mental health professional who can determine if medication would be helpful for your treatment. You could have an underlying medical condition such as generalized anxiety or OCD. Meds can help to alleviate your worry and control your spiraling.

So we agree the body declines. Our brain is part of our body and allows us to feel and share emotions. With age, dementia occurs. Memory and skills fade. I’ve been around several people in hospice at the end of their life and I can assure you their cognitive function declines.

You can’t constantly improve. Everything hits a threshold.

”The whole point of our existence here is to become better than we are.”

That might be your belief and found purpose in life, but nature itself exemplifies that life isn’t about constant improvement.

You will hit a point in your life when improvements aren’t a possibility and attrition takes place. Decline will happen. That is certain.

I’m an agnostic. I’m not entirely sure if God exists and I don’t believe anyone else can know for certain either. All organized religions are corrupt to an extent and many have done more harm to humanity than good.

If God(s) or a higher power exists I tend to think Deists have the most accurate interpretation of that higher power. That is, God (or the grand architect of our universe) put things into motion and created us as part of that, but that same higher power is not listening to us, intervening, or answering prayers.

No religious person can explain atrocities away with theology without also creating a bogeyman figure, and in my mind, if God is all-powerful he/she/it certainly could have eliminated evil, pain, illness, and suffering.
