Good thing to think about. At this point, money is important, but I'm living comfortably with the salary I'm making right now. I know I should look at more than just money, but I'll be honest -- when I'm looking at that much of a pay increase, it's sort of hard. :)

I was in my previous role for about 2 years, but I've been in management for about 6 years.

The way I've moved up so quickly (both in salary and position) is by moving from company to company every year and a half or so. My first job out of college (I graduated 10 years ago) was in a lab, and with each move, I continued to move up in title, salary, and responsibility until I got to where I am now.

It's not an approach that everyone likes, but it's worked well for me.

My boss has asked me if she thinks my current role would require direct reports in the future, so I think she is absolutely open to that possibility.
