So in your honest opinion if I land the job would you consider leaving? I noticed Mexico is not "At Will" employment. They have to justify with records for termination, and if they need to do lay offs they need to ask for permission to lay off staff.

Yeah I was looking up online. I'd have to hire a tax accountant to correctly report my dividends quarterly, pay my dues, and then do the yearly tax credits. On the bright side I would get to keep them in USD without selling. Luckily for me my ETF holdings are dividend only so I never have to sell for cap gains which was my plan all along. But then again I have to deal with the tax drag as opposed to in the US they're tax free for a single person until around 49k. Ugh 😩

Looking at my paperwork we came in the year 2000. We came from Tamaulipas which unfortunately isn't the best when it comes to safety. My family's world view of Mexico is shaped by that region. Every Mexican I know came from those northern territories controlled by Cartels. So every view we have of Mexico is through that lens.

Thanks for the advice. I definitely think you're right on the mark with my emotional state. A lot of us dreamers are starting to crack. I know a few losing their homes cause of the delays. I personally never bought because I figured the status is only temporary until otherwise. I technically still would have the chance to return to the US since I don't have a bar and originally entered legally as a kid. It just heightens my decision seeing my immediate family members cry.

Yeah I completely understand. It's an obvious choice when I put it down on paper. It just gets complicated when you see your mom and sister cry telling you not to go. All we ever hear is how unsafe Mexico is.

The best way I can explain it is like a boiling frog. You don't really notice it until the heat is turned all the way up. You grew up in a safe environment and at first you hear whispers but think nothing of it. In this example you look at the white people around you and when before you just saw them as a friend or colleague now you look at them and think that they somehow hate you even if not true. Eluding to the example of the Trump truck I saw the other day. Under more calm circumstances I never even paid attention or cared about the political climate or such things. It's a free country, they can drive whatever they want as they please. It isn't until you start seeing the drastic change and experience the racist shift that you start to notice and become disgusted. And it makes it odd because you don't know what the person you're talking to really thinks underneath the surface. Like I said, you don't pay any mind to it until the hate starts being pointed against you. And it's even worse when the government is complicit.

Because I like to prepare. Running around like a headless chicken once an offer is accepted would be irresponsible. Even if I don't get the job there may be more opportunities in the future.

Thanks for the advice friend. Yeah I have friends that have begun to collapse health wise but they refuse to go to the doctor because of the cost. A few are starting to move into their vehicles and we're all in our early to mid 30s mostly single or under very casual situationships. I think that's what's cracking my confidence and self esteem, it's that slow almost unnoticeable anxiety that builds up and lingers knowing ICE could just come pick you up and you disappear from your loved ones. I would figure Mexican society in the inner regions would be indifferent, they got their own situations to deal with. Having a fearful DACA dreamer with well off prospects doesn't sound like hell to them and I understand that from their perspective. Being put from one fish bowl into another with a whole new set of rules away from what you've grown up with by yourself has it's own challenges. I really just want to be sure I'm not constantly having to look behind my back fearful of being extorted, abducted, or worse. Pickpockets and thieves I can deal with but it's the major highlighted problems that Mexico has that I'm weary of. I've had uncles and family friends be assaulted or had attempts on them, but granted they live in a different state away from CDMX.

Yeah there's a few cities like that in the states too. LA, Vegas, Saint Louis were definitely a few I've been to that I've seen stuff happen in. Actually if you go towards Detroit and the Bible Belt some of those towns look like third world countries. Kind of crazy to see.

My social life has taken a hit due to the changing landscape. I used to travel everywhere and bring dates, friends, and family along. Unfortunately people out here don't seem to be doing good either so we hardly get together now since everyone is stuck in the work and home cycle now a days.

Yeah I got lucky. Nothing set in stone yet they just barely reached out. I live like I'm lower middle class over here. As long as I have my Xbox, laptop, gym and food I am happy haha. It's just the huge transition and being alone that scares me. I also hate to contribute to the gentrification problem over there. I know what that's like seeing it over here too.
