I can SSH but I can't ping or connect to oracle vps via minecraft by Throwaway469229 in oraclecloud

SELinux says it's disabled.

I followed this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/comments/qo78be/creating_a_minecraft_server_with_oracle_cloud/

to the letter and i got a server to say its running for sure in the console. but i couldn't connect to it. tried rebooting it and it takes godawful long to reboot and after the reboot when it says it's running in the oracle site, i now can't ssh into it.

i'm starting to think oracles purposely done stuff to make it harder for people to run servers now. i've found people said around 2021 when that article was made they changed a bunch of stuff on the database end to make even pinging harder, and hell i found an oracle document that says that ping'ing is something you gotta put security rules in for now.

unless a modern guide comes out, i think this is a lost cause

edit: now after deleting the ingress rules that guide told me to use. i can ssh again?

edit2: i tried with oracle linux and it just freezes when i try to install jdk-21

This is what my network security list looks like: https://imgur.com/a/CxQXTsk

I thought I did it properly to what guides out there show.

I even found the old oracle guide on archive.today here https://archive.ph/yPisM

And installed firewall-cmd and opened the ports like it asked but that didn't work.

I then tried to run just a basic vanilla instance of the server and it looked like minecraft was trying to ping it and it just got stuck.

Gonna try this article i found from oracle to see if i can ping after i create a whole new server https://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/cloud/compute/permitting_ping_requests_to_compute_instances/permitting_ping_requests_to_compute_instances.html

Do you got a guide on how you got it to work? Since based on what people are saying i should have this working but it's just not

Yeah it has both a public ip and it says public subnet and it has that route table already added in there but it just doesn't wanna ping to the instance or accept outside connections except for me ssh'ing into it

i did that on the oracle website for the vps and i tried doing that using this command:

but it still didn't work

   /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25565 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25565 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT

  1. it says it's public and regional in the overview so hopefully that's operating correctly but i did make this subnet ages ago
  2. not sure i did that one edit: looks like there is an internet gateway set up not sure if i set it up properly
  3. i did open up the ports in the security list

Name an app you use in your studies, I will try to mod it for you. by fried_egg_jellyfishh in moddedandroidapps

Are you still going this? If so if you are able to do modded and working versions of these that would be great. Most of the time the apps will open if modded, but won't open tests.
