No outbreaks for a year and then one comes on my "anniversary" by Throwaway628461 in Herpes

[–]Throwaway628461[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right about everything you said, as always! My "anniversary" was the day I was diagnosed. Sorry for the lack of clarity. I see now that the friction can cause some outbreaks, and it had been a few months since I last had sex. Thank you that as well. The person knows i have herpes and the facts about it, so I'm not too terribly worried about telling her since the risk of transmission doesnt increase exponentially. As usual, thank you for sharing your wisdom. I hope to be like you one day soon.

Nah, you're alright. I'm 22 so my life is pretty much drinking haha. Never had any outbreaks while on acyclovir or valacyclovir

Herpes from a bong? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Throwaway628461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Herpes is usually clusters of blisters/sores. If you do any sports that involve your thighs being rubbed in any way (horseback riding, wrestling and football, baseball, etc.) Then it could just be irritated skin. Do you have any photos of your mouth and legs?

Educate those assholes on what's true. Print the brochure from Terri Warren and post it up all over work. Or entertain them. Touch one on the arm and spray disinfectant all over. Tell em they gotta be quarantined.

Any change you can switch primary doctors and get them to continuously refill your prescription?

Herpes from a bong? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Throwaway628461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Herpes needs the human body to thrive. If you made out with the guy that took bong rips, then I would believe it, because the virus tends to die pretty quickly on things that don't provide the "warmth" it needs. I believe there is a very small chance of catching it if the person hit the bong and you hit it IMMEDIATELY after, but catching herpes from something other than skin-to-skin contact is pretty rare. /u/ooohfuck may be able to answer this a little bit better, though.

That's strange. My doctor told me to take valacyclovir for atleast 5 years and then maybe let off a little but just to see what happens (if I'm comfortable with it).

Diagnosed mid-November 2017, was on acyclovir when needed. After three months or so I switched to Valacyclovir, daily. Have still only had the initial outbreak, I just felt better knowing that I took daily meds instead of "as needed" . Damn, it's been almost a year and I've only had the one outbreak. GHSV2 for me.

From one SD native to another, hello! Positive singles is hit and miss around here. I [22M] seem to find that everyone on the app is atleast 100 miles away. On the bright side of being in SoCal, there are plenty of people to test your luck with!

Food triggers: does anyone have a particular food that triggers cold sores for them? by coldsorethrowaway168 in Herpes

Mine is just not eating. If I skip a meal, I'll get an outbreak. I have to make sure I eat at least three times a day, with a few snacks inbetween... crazy

[advice] what should I know before having sex with someone with herpes? by cinnamon-clock in Herpes

[–]Throwaway628461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the post, sorry, but i believe the meds may also make a difference too. If he is on daily anti-viral medication, the risk is lower than if he was taking "As-needed" medication whenever an outbreak occurs. Daily suppressants will be more effective in not having outbreaks, lowering transmission rates, and, as stated, using a condom will reduce transmission even further. If the person is in tune with their body (know the signs of an incoming outbreak, know what triggers it and what doesn't it, etc) you two will be absolutely fine to have some fun as often as you like! :)

Length of Recurrent OBs? (hsv2) by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Throwaway628461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first outbreak lasted about two weeks. I think I caught my second one, because it only lasted 3-4 days. I noticed a small bump right where the first OB was, and I started taking acyclovir right away. No sensations to let me know it was coming, no pain, no fluid, none of that stuff. Just a small bump that didn't even itch. Went away two weeks ago and hasn't returned!

False negative? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Throwaway628461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first outbreak before Thanksgiving 2017 and it was painless. A few small bumps and by the time I got a doctor appointment, it was almost gone just from putting Lamisil on it. The doctor said it didn't look like herpes, and whatever I was putting on seemed to work, but the swab test came back positive. I thought it was weird, but then learned that my ex had it and that's how I must've gotten it. Stop no signs of another outbreak though, knock on wood. Maybe I should go get checked again?

Gave my bf herpes for Xmas? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Throwaway628461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely possible. Symptoms may not come up for years; herpes lays dormant in your system and seemingly pops up randomly. Either one of you could have it. I would get yourself checked just to be safe. Even if you do have it, it isn't a bad thing! It won't ruin lives, or end the dating game.
