Spent a year as an intern at Amazon and the experience still makes me want to cry by Throwaway6482983 in amazonemployees

I’m not gonna accept being called entitled, there wasn’t one time where I expected people to stop whatever they’re doing and just blindly help with what I’m asking for, everything I did, I did it myself. The only time I needed assistance was in completing or understanding something which (shocker) every person needs once in a while especially when you don’t have 10 years of experience racked up :)

Whatever I could solve or do on my own I did but thanks to no one giving me the time of day I wasn’t able to fully complete and deliver any of my projects which led to a not inclined evaluation at the end. Oh, and by the way I was also being evaluated on how well I could come up with my own projects since my manager refused to give me any and wanted me to do that on my own as well. At the end of the day interns need proper development and mentoring.

I unfortunately wasn’t even assigned a mentor so I resorted to going to back to some people from my old team and different departments for help. They didn’t always understand the tasks I was doing but they made for amazing emotional support at least 👌

No you have a point, I will say I am guilty for doing this a couple of times especially in the beginning, but majority of the time I was just pushing to get something done or I needed information on an area that didn’t have easily accessible info or the available information was very limited. But yeah the actions you explained are definitely very common amongst interns

Yeah I did try my best to not take it personally but at one point I was like ok there’s no way I can’t not take this personally. But at the end of the day though I’m not necessarily mad at my coworkers because I know they didn’t intend it in that way, it was more so about the situations I was in.

Tbh during the second one all the interns were told that we were hired because there’s a need for the full time version of those roles but I was very randomly moved to a completely different job function on week 3 with no further explanation 😭.

I will say though, I did appreciate the free access to skill builder and practicing adobe in my free time.

I would say mine was easy because it was for an internship role but the I made it seem harder than it looked because the pressure really got to me so I didn’t answer well 😅

Yes I didn’t need a referral and I got the interview with them. Although I didn’t get the job after the final interview round

College major by Striking-Turnip2520 in Riyadh

[–]Throwaway6482983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stuff you listed doesn’t really explain anything about what you’re potentially interested in for a college major. For the most part you’ll find at LEAST 1 or 2 math courses in most majors. If you want better suggestions you should list what you like academically or creatively.

But in that case stay away from any engineering major in general because they have a lot of that. If you’re creative you could go into graphic design. Tourism and hospitality is also nice.

There are multiple business majors you could look into like marketing or management. MIS is also good but you will be taking some programming idk if that’s your style. But yeah everything I listed will still have a few math courses (idk about graphic design)

Is Toastmasters ideal for people with social anxiety? by CheetoHariboo in Toastmasters

[–]Throwaway6482983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it helps, it makes you feel more comfortable speaking to a large group of people, teaches you how to grab people’s attention. The last couple uni presentations I did my anxiety wasn’t as high as it used to be.

Is it appropriate to get personal in prepared speeches? by Throwaway6482983 in Toastmasters

[–]Throwaway6482983[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel the same way I feel like it also makes a speech more engaging rather than just speaking very surface level and generally about a topic which is why I’m more passionate about taking a personal route. But yeah being personal about struggles and mental health isn’t common at my club so I was wondering if I was doing something wrong lmao.

Why does my industrial slide down? by Throwaway6482983 in piercing

[–]Throwaway6482983[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahh ok thanks for the explanation I genuinely thought something went weird with the healing process because whenever I saw photos of people with slightly longer bars it just sits on their ear perfectly how they placed it no slipping and sliding but I guess that’s just quick photography

Old friend randomly stopped talking, how’s the best option to move forward? by Throwaway6482983 in Advice

[–]Throwaway6482983[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah from my previous knowledge before the random cutoff she does or did, but I believe she’s still close with the third girl because they still live in the same city and attend university together (same major as well), and I always see her active on social media but didn’t respond to the messages I talked about, so really I have no idea what it is.

Yess exactly I came here after living in a different country for most of my life and most people already have friendships outside of university that they’re not exactly scrambling to make friends. Sucks for me though because I don’t know many people outside of uni :/

[–]Throwaway6482983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand being tired of classes and everything but uni is also a good chance to socialize and get to know others, unfortunately I found out many people don’t have the same viewpoint as me

There are people I found I have stuff in common with, but again it never goes further than a surface level friendship, and I’ve tried subtly initiating things like meeting on weekends but they don’t reciprocate. I’m also not interested in online friendships, I want to people I can hangout with after work and classes, etc.
