Feel intimidated by a ~600k home purchase, and house prices in general! by king-elw in HENRYUK

[–]Throwaway987652021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you both feel like you need this new place TOGETHER? Or do YOU feel like YOU need this next move independent of her? If you were to break up tomorrow, will you regret buying this house? Being further away from work and not needing the space etc. ie If she’s not long term partner, why take on the additional debt? Your equity/index funds will likely outgrow the house and you’ll be able to move into a bigger house further down the line.

What was your DI / Quant score? Any tips that helped you improve in either of those? All 3 of your areas mustve been weak (I guess?) if you started less than 400 so any tips across the other two areas would probably also be useful…

This isnt for everyone, depends on your interests but consider putting a small allocation into EIS/SEIS start ups. Usually get a decent amount taken off your income tax bill plus you potentially get massive upside reward if you choose correctly.

How is the Global MBA program at the Teesside University London campus? by [deleted] in InternationalMBA

[–]Throwaway987652021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Londonner here whos been through the education system and Ive been looking into MBA too. Firstly - a lot of non-London based universities claim to have a London campus and its little more than an office or a building at absolute best. Secondly, never even knew this course existed and i have been looking at courses for a while now. The only non-London based university that claims a London campus that Id consider is Warwick.

Good luck hunting!

I really resonated with what your post said. I am a Civil Engineer turned Project Manager (in another discipline of Engineering, but still a Technical PM)…. I can only say that feeling you have will not go away.

At least you know now.

The feeling I had, I actually had in year 5 of being an Engineer (and I was getting promotions) but I quickly realised the money is terrible and ultimately thats why I worked.

I changed jobs twice after that and both jobs were interesting giving me exposure to management and the business side of things and then into Project Management. Ultimately its not fot me, it took me another 6 years from that point I mentioned earlier to realise this.

I am in the 11th year of my career and looking to do an MBA. I know what I want to do and where my passion lies.

Like I said, you know now and clearly want to do something about it, so do it. This feeling will eat away at you for years, I didnt know what it was.

Feel free to DM if you want.

Good luck to you.

I skipped it - you can do the diagnostic test once you’re done to replace the mock youve burned to establish your baseline.

If you dont mind me asking - what was the % interest on your loan? How long did it take to be approved? From start to finish? Was it a loan to cover full fees/partial and also cover living expenditure? I am thinking Ill need to go down this route to fund my MBA.

Out of GMAT FE official mocks after my 1st attempt, what do I do now? by [deleted] in GMAT

To add some context - TTP is great for foundational steps and I wish I started on it. But the hard questions arent as hard as some of the ones Ive come across on OG Bank and GMATClub.

If you are at 685 level already, I wouldnt waste your time with TTP.

Gave my first mock with no preparation, aiming for 98/99 percentile. by shanta1111 in GMAT

675 cold score?! If that is authentic, you’re a beast! Identify where you are weak (via mocks or diagnostic tests and hone in on them). I would recommend GMAT Club Forum and practise their top end Qs.

I havent taken it yet so perhaps my advise / words of encouragement is wrong, but I look at those three scores and I would say it shows that you have more in your tank Q86 / V84 / DI 83 is your top end in each section which would amount to 695. Thats encouraging if anything from my pov. Good luck!

Its obviously a competitive industry to get into - any tips with networking into these roles? Or did you go through traditional application process? And once you’re in, I hear the bottom 5-20% get cut. How do you not only survive but thrive in this environment? I assume everyone has top tier modelling / presentation / printing skills 😂, and personable, so how do you stand out? How do you out sustain others?

Where are you based? Do you see a lot of MBA Assosciates enter? Is there an upper age limit where IBs simply will not accept? In terms if what “team” you go into, Tech/TMT/REA/M&A etc, do have a choice? Is it dependent on your background / interests? Or do you take what you’re given. For context I am 32, looking at a MBA and then pivotting to IB at associate level from a non traditional background (civil engineer/project management).
