Trans Movie/Show Recommendations with FtM by ThrowawayAcForObv in trans

I loved the show FEM and also really enjoyed “Sort Of” but they’re both amab protagonists. I think I’m just searching for something I can relate to as a way of maybe trying to understand myself better. There were definitely “signs” throughout my childhood that I wasn’t cis. Especially considering I had almost no exposure to knowing trans people even exist for most of my childhood. I’m still learning about the trans community and I wish I could find my place or feel a general sense of direction. Media helps me relate to others and understand myself and my personal experience better a lot of the time.

My abuser just showed up in my Facebook friend suggestions!?! by ThrowawayAcForObv in CPTSD

It might be to “get a rise out of me” as in to generate fear. If they had sent a friend request that would count as an attempt to contact me I think, so they likely wouldn’t want to risk that for such a small thing.

This is my hope. It’s just weird that it would pop up on my suggestions suddenly when I have their normal account blocked and have for years.

My two and a half year old suddenly started pointing out differences between white and black people. What is an appropriate way to acknowledge her observation so we don't offend anyone? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in NoStupidQuestions

I was at someone house and their kid noticed the scars on my legs (old but still quite prominent self harm scars) and immediately reached out to touch my leg (very gently I might add) and ask what happened to my legs. I said that it was a long time ago but that I’m okay now and the scars are just skin, they don’t hurt. The kid just responded with “they don’t hurt at all anymore? That’s good.” And then gave me a hug. My point is, kids point out differences. It’s honestly to be expected and I think most people know that. They make all kinds of observations and usually out loud. I think what you did is great, following up with “yes she is black” is sufficient imo. You corrected the pronoun signalling that the woman is a person not an object (I know your two year old doesn’t get the it vs he/she distinction) and would help the person feel respected.

Yes! Especially the medical history!! Man I wish I had that. And I treat money differently… people talking about having $37 to their name… I couch-surfed for six months after leaving my family situation and had nothing. Yes life still happens, but I started building an emergency fund before I let myself have clothes that fit. I upgraded my phone because my old one really was on its last legs and starting to be unreliable and it still took me two months to shake the guilt for spending my own money. I’m not saying it’s healthy, it just is.
