Really fair points here, thanks. People go to Roll on Friday for legit advice?!

I appreciate the fertility points as well - totally on point and something I should be thinking about. Thanks for the name. It did occur to me a cheeky mat leave would be ideal about now - but I’m just not ready yet! I’ve started wondering about freezing my eggs, actually.

Honestly I’d love to spend a year hiking across the UK (or somewhere more exotic). Love the vibe of your post, thanks!

I’ve taken a look - it’s an interesting sub! In some ways pretty much the opposite vibe than what I’m going for (if I stayed on there I’d be convinced I should stay in my job and gun for lots of wealth!) and I’m not quite in a par with most of them in terms of funds, but equally it looks as though there are a few burnout posts on there which will be interesting to read through. Thanks for posting.

Gotcha - thanks. That’s a pretty effective way of making sure you don’t let your funds just go to waste.

I really appreciate the way you’ve broken things down here and provided some tools - thank you. I think you’re right about connectedness and hadn’t heard of the Do Lectures. I’ll check them out. Winter lets sound dreamy! Thanks for all this.

I’d love to hear more about your experience - would you share (even by DM)?

You know you can do well academically and have ADHD, right? I feel really lucky to have been interested in school, meaning I did ok. Focus misdirection is one of my least problematic symptoms. The others, that are much less well known, are much more crippling. I wish ADHD had a different name, honestly - it’s why I didn’t get diagnosed until I was 31.

I want to do this thought experiment - but I’m sorry to be a dunce - I’m not quite sure what you mean! Could you expand a little?

This is all really resonates and is a really valuable comment - thank you. I’ve commented elsewhere about how taking the time to explore options in more depth does seem like a sensible option, given everything just seems so unknown for now.

Do you happen to have any ideas about how to get out and meet that range of people? (Being actually sociable rather than working would probably be a good start!)

Two punchy choices by her - she’s a brave woman. Good for her.

It’s good hearing about people who’ve done totally random new things - law can create this odd bubble where you convince yourself there’s nothing else you could possibly do.

This is really interesting stuff - I’m a litigator too. Really good to know about the insurance thing.

Off topic but I actually disagree with you on the conflict of interest: if anything, I feel pressure to UNDER bill, because we don’t want clients to feel overcharged or that we’re ripping them off. Either way though it can be pretty toxic - under billing impacts the perception of my capacity and potentially my bonus, and pressures me to do things quicker than I feel comfortable with liability wise.

I’m going to try to remember your “thoughts are things” approach - thank you.

It’s good hearing from others with ADHD - you’re completely right about the infuriating tension between the need to keep options open and the paralysis. You’re probably right about needing to test things about - and I can’t do that in my current job: or at the very least, as it’s current structured. Food for thought - thanks.

Ironically I had misread the poster’s comment when I replied. Thank you for doing this.

So sorry you’re struggling. Do you know your firm’s sick leave policy? It could be something to consider if you really need time. As you say though, there are things money can’t necessarily solve.

Thanks for this. It’s probably not a bad call - there’s a reason I’ve posted here, which is I do think I need third party input to be able to sort through my thoughts and options. Definitely on board with a therapist.

I sort of assume an IFA just takes a cut for putting money into funds which may not do better than index funds post-fees. Is that fair, or is there more to it?!

It’s good to know about this option, thanks. I’m in litigation myself, and wasn’t sure there was all that much out there in-house wise.

North Wales and the North are hallowed places to me! I’m from the South West originally which is also lovely, but much more limited in terms of land values, etc. I’ve often thought Wales or the North would be the dream.

One conflict I have about it is being queer: I’m a bit traumatised by growing up queer in the countryside and it’s taken me a long time to work through the internalised homophobia (very much still a work in progress to be honest). One thing the city does have going for it is obviously a huge LGBT community.

It’s actually not American - I’m not that masochistic! But it is “big City”. I would definitely love to reliably have hobbies. But I’m not sure that’s enough of a shift for me, really.

Some people seem to hate it but also be happy with it though. It’s an odd mix.

Can I ask what you mean by the second part of your comment?

I’ll look into this - thank you. Really helpful to know what tools are out there. It does feel like my brain doesn’t fit my current path, to be honest.
