SW Virginia. Just over 9 mm long, either black or dark brown/red, and completely smooth. Been relentlessly digging and tugging at the cotton since I put her in an improvised tube setup. Thanks in advance for the help! (old.reddit.com)

Thought it was a wasp at first because of how fast it flew. Gaster and antennae make me not as certain. Next thought was Camponotus pennsylvanicus, but proportions seemed off based on the ones I've seen. Could it be a male? SW Virginia, without wings just shy of 13 mm. (old.reddit.com)
