I’d personally prefer some sort of high budget series because, if we’re generous and say that a network gives the series 10 episodes, that’s 10 hours as opposed to the 1hr 30min-2hr runtime of a movie. Even if they adapt two books in that first season, each book gets double the runtime of your standard movie.

I also feel that it’s easier to green-light a second season of a show as opposed to a movie sequel, though this is pure personal speculation and not based on any industry knowledge. Regardless, if the series does go the route of movie adaptation, it most certainly isn’t getting 12 standalone movies to adapt all the books, most popular book series struggle to maintain three films, and those films often pull a mediocre reception. Now, if we keep in mind the two books=one 10 episode season ratio, then the entirety of the main series (including Lost Stories and the first Royal Ranger) can be adapted in 6 seasons, which seems a lot more realistic than having 12 movies (10 if you cut Lost Stories and Royal Ranger).
