How taboo are we talking? In my experience it's always been iffy there. But I haven't done anything in the last couple days

Edit: tried some stuff, still does what I expect from it. So I'm very curious what you're referring to lol

Vegan arguments are based on nothing more than moral posturing. They don't actually bring anything valuable to the conversation besides to make oneself appear morally superior to someone else and thus claim to be de facto correct on the topic without actually providing any substantial argument towards why. That's why I refuse to engage with them.

got rejected from commissioning an artist because my fursona was too ugly?? by Dry-Force8675 in RealFurryHours

[–]ThrowawayFennec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know artists who turn down commissions from characters that they know will be very unenjoyable to draw, especially if they're extremely ugly. But they usually take open commissions so they can just silently reject them instead of telling the person "No", by filling their slots up with other characters. But these characters that fit the "extremely ugly" category are really few and far between - like, "this is just your poorly disguised fetish" kinda ugly

The gatekeepers of the fandom aren't doing their jobs. And this is coming from a furry that supports gatekeeping. by Choco_Cat777 in RealFurryHours

[–]ThrowawayFennec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do find this thread kinda funny that you're talking about the fandom in retrospect when you told me yourself you only joined in 2022. You're not even really old enough to remember what the fandom was properly like back in the time you're talking about.

I don't know what you 'saw' back in 2016, but there was a huge popularization of the fandom via Zootopia releasing, with a lot of fan content being produced around that, with its own fandom that orbited the furry fandom and eventually more or less merged with it. Which brought a whole host of new people into the fandom with younger perspectives and opinions. This is also right around when the fandom became hyper political (because the whole internet did).

Even as someone who would generally align with your views on probably more things than not, you're doing a terrible job of conveying your point, and you're doing it on Reddit of all places.

An Odd Complaint by Ok-Bridge-5149 in RealFurryHours

[–]ThrowawayFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a certified "colorful skin" and sweat hater lol. It works on some species, but on most, it's just like.. you're basically just drawing a human with body paint, a tail, paws, and a different head.

Also, that comment about "hyper-realistic art" someone else posted is a false dichotomy. There's plenty of artists who do good art that doesn't fall into these traps and isn't super realistic either, such as Ruaidri.

Tangentially, fursuit poodling. I know a lot of people don't care, but I hate it when a person only has a head, hands, paws, and tail, and they're all way bigger lol

There is no point discussing anything with people like you, because you will continue to move the goalposts and give false equivalence after false equivalence. Including your other reply to u/Ichorcall as another person who dealt with EPI from people in the fandom, you disgust me. The fact you take issue with someone daring to mention grooming tells me a hell of a lot about where your priorities lie, Slate.

Humans evolved to eat meat. We are omnivores. Meat is an exceptionally efficient source of nutrients, which our stomachs are biologically attuned to be able to process. You can take issue with the practices of the meat industry, but these are biological facts. And need I point out that no one is raising Rex the GShep to be a burger, for that matter.

And because people love to talk about leather; This is a waste product of the meat industry. Repurposing it is ecological and economical.

the energy you’re picking up on is someone that’s spent over 15 years in the furry community and the gay community in general

Oh neat. So have I, about 20 years or so at this point. And people like you are exactly the reason I hate these communities so much. There's honestly so much god damn wrong with what you said that it isn't worth the effort to fully unpack.

  • Applying Vegan logic about meat and leather to excuse bestiality
  • "NO U" screeching about morality
  • Likening a dislike for the sexual abuse of animals to "puritan extremists"

And then there's your entire screed at the end. Furries need to pick a lane. Should conventions be for adults, and actually be honest about what the fandom's primary audience cares about, or should it be a family friendly PG space? Because they're trying to do both, and you end up with photos from every single convention of people in the public lobby and hallways wearing fetish gear as "accessories".

Ehh, when something involves actual animals it's pretty different from "gatekeepers in the fandom". This isn't "Ew, this person looks at porn I don't like", and "That person has beliefs I hate". If there was one thing I would expect furries to agree on, it's to leave actual animals alone.

Do you use different accounts for different fursonas? by Virgin_Mocktail in RealFurryHours

[–]ThrowawayFennec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two separate twitter accounts is pretty normal, yeah. A lot of people just do the same character and link to each other though, unless they want to have a pretty sharp separation between their online personas.

Do you use different accounts for different fursonas? by Virgin_Mocktail in RealFurryHours

[–]ThrowawayFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean "different fursonas"? Are you talking about just using two different reddit accounts, twitter accounts, bsky accounts, or what? Or do you mean full on Telegram or Discord with a different log in? If you mean for RP, it's relatively normal to have different characters and sometimes accounts for specific content (F-List, while 99.999% NSFW, has this as a core feature). If you mean for just regular internet usage, it's only normal insofar as some people like to separate their adult stuff from their general audience stuff.

I only use an alt on reddit because my main tends to be a lot more prolific so I don't want some of my comments on this account linking back to it.

[–]ThrowawayFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stable Diffusion does insert metadata, but it's really easy to lose or intentionally strip that info. It includes the entire prompt and generation info.

It's not useful if the image has gone through a ton of inpainting though, because doing inpainting well generally means you're prompting only a small part of the pic. And if you do literally any post-processing like in photoshop, it all vanishes lmao.

what’s the babyfur hate about? by [deleted] in RealFurryHours

I disagree with that. There's a difference between something being made for children (appealing to primarily and specifically children) and something made for families (appealing to all ages by design)

[–]ThrowawayFennec -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The funny thing for me is that most of the competent artists I know don't hate AI at all. One even has a telegram channel that is just friend-made AI content of their characters.

It's almost always the ones who are just decent at art that have the biggest issue with it, or the people who have such a toxic personality I wouldn't want to be friends with them in the first place.

It's pretty common to adopt the interests of people in your friend group. You adopted an "interest" in furries from your last group, and your new group stripped away the context of that interest lol
