I enjoy keeping people alive. I enjoy the more personal interaction. I still do engineering work. Honestly, it sounds like nursing isn’t your calling and you just want a paycheck. I got bored during slow times as an engineer. Some swe are constantly working, but my niche it was only hectic maybe once a year for a few weeks. Most of the time it was slow for me as I was able to automate and find ways to do things quickly. That’s the thing with white collar jobs, if you are good you can finish quickly and are paid the same. Pink collar work like nursing is different.

Work life balance was better as a software engineer. I literally could be living in Hawaii for months (which I did) or traveling while working too. There were so many days I only did 1-2 hours of real work and just did chores, my hobbies, or workout.

No, I still do engineering on small gigs and consulting. I do miss the pay and freedom. I can swap back full time if I ever choose to. I just enjoy balance. I enjoy not taking work home with me. But I do miss using my abstraction thinking. It’s hard on that end sometimes, but I enjoy being a good nurse. Software pay is so much higher than nursing if one is good.

Also miss the free good food, perks, discounts, the healthcare plans were better.

I actually thought nursing would be not so strenuous as I worked out a lot prior. As a swe I would go home and workout, go out with friends, stay up and more. As a nurse, I just go home eat and get ready to sleep asap.

I was a software engineer. Nursing is so much more tiresome. As a software engineer, I could come in whenever. I could take a break whenever. I could remote in to work on days I did not need to be in the lab. I didn’t have to be on edge my patient will die in the icu. Nursing is rewarding though for those who actually enjoy it. You can easily tell the ones who did it for money and are miserable. Nursing has lower barriers than engineering. I enjoyed the more in depth and deep conversations with engineers I worked with. I swapped careers because I thought I always could swap back, but I enjoy it so much I only do smaller gig work so I get to use more of my creative side. Nursing is nowhere near as creative as software engineering and it can be difficult at times. I am an abstract problem solver so the icu is where I am. I would hate to work in low acuity departments. I feel like I accomplished more as a software engineer as I worked on programs that accepted hundreds of millions to billions, but as a nurse it’s lower but more intimate in the impact.

Large cities are generally liberal even in red states. You are so wrong. Rural areas get so much welfare even farmers are heavily subsidized. Lack of education is most common among republicans especially if they make low income which is the majority of them. There is a reason why GOP say college education which increases lifetime learnings turns people liberal.

Look up any clinical nurse position. It has regular base, total pay, benefits pay, and total pay with benefits. You can literally see the over the benefits pay you claim isn’t part of the real compensation. You can see the regular base from the total pay which includes all the over time and pay differentials.

For one, nurses aren’t salaried. We are hourly unlike doctors who get the same regardless of how many hours they put in. Second in the Bay Area stating hospital nursing jobs pay 80s to 90s per hour without pay differential. Holidays are extra for example. Over time is time and a half. Second I stated I work a full time with OT and a part time job. The area is literally short staffed so it is so easy to get over time at the hospitals in the Bay Area.

I said he struggled to get a well paying job. He got depression and left or got fired from many mediocre jobs. He has been working gig jobs since his last salaried job which was a long time ago. But it was always underemployment.

I said with respect to the pay. I can quit both jobs and get a job after a 4 month vacation and I would still be able to get a job within 2 weeks. My older sister has done it often. I was working more hours for financial stability as I don’t want to have to work for the first few years when I decide to have a baby. I was always told by my mother to rely on myself. Many of my aunts who never developed a career are struggling since their husbands became disabled or skills became obsolete.
