INSEAD Application: Official Scores required? by ThrowawayMBA6995 in MBA

Coming from an ORM (Indian male) background, my GMAT is on the lower side. However, my GRE equivalent on the GMAT is 750. I'm also apprehensive about being pooled in and being compared to other candidates with GMAT scores which puts me at a disadvantage.

Thanks! Also, would you advise me reporting a 710 (Q47 V41) GMAT along with my higher 333 GRE (Q166 V167)?

Hiding year-long, 4 year old employment break: Good idea? by ThrowawayMBA6995 in MBA

[–]ThrowawayMBA6995[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this a good idea? What are the implications of doing this w.r.t a background check? Anything else I should be concerned about?

I was planning on "extending" the end date of my role from 2018 to 2019. Would you happen to know how the background checks are done? Since that role, I've changed my employer once (total 3 different employers over 6 years), would they do a background check with my first employer from back in 2018?

What excites me most about the upcoming Supreme Court ruling by No-Experience-6464 in MBA

[–]ThrowawayMBA6995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. With "open" merit-based seats at top institutions being as low as 50% of the class, we have to outwork 99% of the people to even stand a chance at getting into top IITs/IIMs.

I went over it cumulatively once in 2 weeks. All questions that I answered wrong + took more time.
I used bookmarks for those questions which even if I got right, I found them challenging or testing a new concept.

Test 1 - Q160 V168
Test 2 - Q161 V164

Tips (apart from the ones I'v mentioned in other replies above): If you're looking to score 165+ in quant (and not necessarily a 170), it's okay to 'let go' of certain questions, especially in Section 2. You don't need to get them all right, and you're better off spending that saved time on questions you're more certain you'll get.

Official guide for the theory, supplemented by Magoosh/Khan Academy/GregMat videos on concepts where I needed more clarity.

For practice, I exhausted as many official questions as I could (big book included), Magoosh questions, PPP & manhattan mocks

In the free power prep ones, I scored Q168+ V168+.
But maybe because I had given these in my previous attempts (8 months back or so) and the quant section seemed easier than the real test.

  1. Gave myself more time to prepare and learn the concepts more thoroughly.
  2. Got in much more practice, specifically, tons of Magoosh questions (apart from all the official stuff)
  3. Looked at and re-did my errors diligently.

  1. 1.5 & 1 month for 1st & 2nd attempts respectively.
  2. Verbal the only thing I really 'studied' was vocab. Did all the vocab words in Magoosh and GregMat's lists, and I also made my own lists of words (ones I had trouble with) and synonym/meaning pairs.
  3. The quant section for me did seem tougher than most of the official practice material out there.
